Hour record attempt tonight lads. Reckon he'll do it?
What does he have to beat? Aren't there different records or categories? I can't remember. He's actually not 'that' good of a cyclist. Sure he's entertaining but as we know, the big boys will set the records.
Of course Tony Martin will smash it - might even get close to 60km. But for the time being, the mark is his.
Matt Bottrill's coach said he would have done between 52 and 53km (he is remarkably accurate with his predictions and they did testing on the track). No wonder he was denied an attempt by the UCI due to a rule that wasn't written in - all competitors must be part of bio passport system.

Yes, with ease.
I could get within spitting distance of the hour record based on the numbers (CdA/watts), so if a powerhouse such as Voigt cannot batter it then I would be very surprised.
Hutch thought that as well but.... I could get within spitting distance of the hour record based on the numbers (CdA/watts), so if a powerhouse such as Voigt cannot batter it then I would be very surprised.
Hutch's bike
Voigt's bike
I feel for Bottrill because I would love to see peopel like him go for the record but I do think that for the continuing credibility of the sport having riders sign up to the UCI bio passport system for record attempts such as this is the right thing. The alternative is people like me turning up after a few months intensive training and a sackful of drugs to give it a shot...
I've always wondered, seeing as I'm not cycling competively, and have no intention of ever doing so, am I allowed to get some of these performance enhancing drugs? Would make a change so I could keep up with my mates on a long ride!
The appetite suppressant ones would probably be the place to start for me!

There was a really good article on it but I can't lay my hands on it immediately. Here's a summary: http://www.podiumcafe.com/2011/11/22/2580086/andre...

After the EPO kicked in, I rode a 200-miler and I felt strong, fresh, ready to hammer. The next day I easily could have ridden another 200.
His conclusion is strongly against it though:OutsideOnline said:
With the EPO, even if somebody gave it away, I wouldn't go down that road. Using it is too much of a literal and figurative headache, and if you get sloppy there's always the danger of nasty results. And I would never touch steroids again, unless I had some specific medical need. It's all just too powerful, too strange, and it's hard to read a list of the side effects and not feel like you're playing Russian roulette.

Wasn't Hutch attempting the record on the same equipment as the previous record holder?
That is not what I said though is it. Bottrill wanted to attempt the same thing Jens did last night which as you can clearly see allows a totally different bike to what Hutch was attempting, but was not allowed to due not being part of the bio passport, which was not clear in the rules. Bottrill would have easily broken the record and gone further than Jens, but I can see the UCI would not have gone for that as a headline.
