Watched the final 15 minutes, first cricket games I’ve seen really and only tuned in because it was England in the WC
Fair play to them!
I do think however, if baseball was more a “thing” in this country I would be a fan
I’ve been to baseball games in the US, now that is a boring game.Fair play to them!

God,I wish it had been the Aussies.
Thrashing them in the semis was more than adequate for me.Also, having two fair teams in the final was a much better advertisement for the game.

let's be honest here kids don't play cricket at school anymore. That is the biggest problem
Not true of all schools but could well be true of many. My son plays in his school cricket team and he also plays for a local village under 13sCricket, Tennis, Motor Racing, Cycling, Netball......
Football starts up again in Scotland in less than three weeks time.

Here in Surrey my son (10) has just played an inter schools qualifier tournament, followed by the County Championship. That’s at year 5, there is the same competition at every age group for every school in Surry that wants to play. I think there were 35 schools involved. So it is still played at state schools. As ever it is down to the dedication of some teachers to make it happen.
We didn't have a team at primary school, but we did play "Kwik cricket" in PE. Every "play time" break had me or someone else going for the kit for our 15 minutes of play.
I played cricket at secondary school and played for our team. I played it a lot down my street, on the school field with friends, used to play cricket with my dad as well. Great memories. One of my neighbours was part of the board of Hull CC. Along with someone else we took part in an under 17 match at The Circle (when it was still a cricket ground, if no longer used by Yorkshire). It was a toss up between who would bat and who would bowl. I wanted to bat but I ended up bowling. I was to be given a single over. The players on the team were not very welcoming and I felt quite uneasy.
My chance to bowl came. I ended up bowling a 7 ball over thanks to a wide. My last ball? Wicket! Everyone changed how they were to me. It was an amazing change.
I joined the under 13's team, and played all the way through to under 17's. Took plenty of wickets, had a top score of 27 (we retired at 25) and was asked to stop hitting the ball in to the next field as they were struggling to find it
I hit a 6 at Headingley off the opposition's teams fastest bowler, meeting him at the pitch of the ball, was awarded bowler of the year one year and thoroughly enjoyed my time.
Getting a car and a gf changed all that and I haven't played for over 20 years. Something I am looking to change for next season once I get some fitness back. The only problem is that there aren't many (any?) Leagues that play on Sundays. Saturdays are quite difficult for me, but if I need to travel a bit then I will.
Cannot wait.

Speaking of local cricket facilities. This now defunct club backs onto my house. Council owned and they wont even cut the grass.
And yet the cricket pitch near me at Hawley Green near Blackwater is seeing more use this year than i've know before. Adult cricket, teenagers cricket both boys and girls and big ball cricket for (I assume) visually impaired or disabled. It's great to see it getting such use. Vaud said:
