The **BOXING** thread Vol 2
Discussion
Interesting reading from people much more clued up than me!
My very un-educated opinion is that I don't think Vlad would have taken the re-match if he really didn't think he can beat Fury next time. I would have thought he would just retire rather than risk the 'embarrassment' of losing to Fury again

Got to agree with that - know very little about the technique etc behind boxing but have long thought that this is the best thread on PH by a country mile. It's not often that we get to Page 90 of Vol 2 without it descending into petty arguments and ridiculous point-scoring (if you'll excuse the pun!)
Love reading the insights and thoughtful opinion - keep it up chaps

Wait until the next time Amir Khan fights...you might just change your mind on that! Love reading the insights and thoughtful opinion - keep it up chaps
Im simply suprised no one has mentioned that the press, admitably daily mail has started with the Pac v Mayweather II talk.
I was always doubtful their wasnt a second fight pre planned.
And i cant believe an ego like Mayweathers could imagine seeing his limelight fade as people simply move onto the current crop of figthers.
So i expect a few months of building the press up, and then a big announcement.
As much as the first fight was dissapointing, ill be daft enough to watch the second fight if it happens.
As with most Mayweather fights i simply watch in the hope of seeing someone at least put him on his arse

They've both officially retired, haven't they
See Tyson Fury is running his mouth off again, contradictory nonsensical press conference rants about vlad and threatening to slap the ear of Eddie Hearn "because that's what real men do to little bhes" or some such charming bravado. He doesn't make I easy to get on board the good ship Fury does he?
And yes the Khan fight will bring out the worst in arm chair boxing pundits like me, I'm sure.

Ain't that the truth! I seem to be one of the few that actually likes Khan!
I like him and I fancy his chances, more than his trainer perhaps - depending on how you read between the lines of what Virgil Hunter (great name) is reported as saying...http://www.skysports.com/boxing/news/12183/1024088...
It's only 3 weeks away now, the build up has been remarkably quiet.

I am really looking forward to the day when someone knocks out Fury, I simply cannot stand him. His recent little episode with Wilder hopefully will lead to a fight, that'll be something I'll pay to see. As for Vlad, it's a non fight, it would be funny if it wen to points and Fury lost but I can't see it. Was listening to 5Live last night and they had a interview with Fury during half time and he said he was currently 24 Stone, eating what he wants and living a party lifestyle. Also mentions he has no motivation, and sees this as work and in reality another payday.
I know you have to take Fury with a pinch of salt, but 24 stone is alot of weight to lose to get back down to the fighting weight he beat Wlad at.

I honestly believe Alvarez will absolutely flatten him rather quickly. It's OK Khan beefing up and making the weight; Khans problem will be his chin. He can't make himself more tolerant to harder punches. It's a biological thing; the brain will shut down when it determines it's in trouble.
Everyone in life reacts to pain and punches differently and no matter how much muscle you bang on, that ability to take a punch always stays the same.
If I were Khan my plan would be to keep out of the way and forget his 'hand speed' and trying to stand toe to toe with him.
Alvarez is a knockout man who's KO'd many heavier men that Khan - I'll give it 3 rounds maximum. He'll get hit harder than he's ever been hit and despite disliking Khan I'm actually worried he might get seriously hurt. I hope he doesn't.

I'm the polar opposite; I dislike Khan and his self promoted hype - full of crap and always has been.

There's only one way to find out... Fiiiiiight!
I don't think the weight will matter massively, similar height and reach and Khans always been quite big for the lighter weights. But you're right, Alvarez is very experienced and he hits like a train, he's a great fighter and Khan is (even as a fan) not a great fighter, he's spent a long time flirting with the idea though. His chin isn't the problem it's being punched on it that's the problem and anyone caught flush can go down. I just hope this is his moment to really shine, and it'll be insufferable for those that don't like him
I just watched the Fury interview on the BBC, banging on about how he's partying and he's got no motivation and is only doing it for the money... Who knows if he's being honest or gaming or what? But if he's not 100% prepared and fit it's going to be a short night in Manchester, the sports almanac's are littered with the talents that no one remembers, or remembers for their shortcomings.

When was the last time a world title fight was so one sided?
If we're talking about heavyweight world title fights so one-sided in favour of the challenger, the last one I can think of was Corrie Sanders dismantling of Wladimir Klitschko for the WBO belt (ain't that so, tusc?! )Challo said:

Heard this too. Could well be a ruse, but if not, I hope for his sake he's in that position because he's having the time of his life...it's documented he has battled with depression previously; just hope this isn't indicative of ongoing struggles.
