Would still be up for a PH clay day though.
Hi all, could someone give me a couple of pointers regarding clay?
Back in the air cadets, 12+ years ago, I shot target rifles at range, for about 5 years and loved it. I'd like to do it again, but the whole being part of a gun club and associated regulations regarding Sec1 have put me off a bit. Also the distances I would have to travel to get to a range are quite high.
Having never fired shotguns (and always being a fan of them), I'd like to try clay. My understanding is the rules are a little less restrictive with regards possession and ownership.
I also like to shoot alone, at my own pace, during nice weather.
If I join a clay club, do they let you go down, on your own, whenever you want and shoot some clays? What's the average pricing for this, and can you take things on your own time and pace, or do you have someone guiding/watching you all the time? I don't want to sound like I'm dismissing health & safety, just more so that I look to shoot alone, at my own pace.
I'm hoping for when the nicer weather comes, I can go during quiet times mid-week when I'm off work, and just have 4 or 5 hours outside, shooting a few clays, enjoying the outside and having a bit of 'me' time.
I've never done clay at all, I assume you can load a load of clays into the launcher, then set it off yourself (or timed) and then just restock the clays as and when needed?
If anyone has any suggestions in the blackpool/preston/lancaster areas, then i'm all ears, as there seems to be many clay sites around this area, I suppose with a lot of it being rural
Hope this makes sense

Blackburn Rifle & Pistol Club have a full-bore rated indoor range, and they do longer range trips out to the ranges at Formby on a regular basis.http://www.blackburn-rpc.co.uk/shooting-range-disc...
You probably have closer access to ranges than I do in London!
I'd go for FAC & SGC at same time, don't just restrict yourself to one or the other.

where was the last one held?
If you are replying to me RE sim game day, it was Reading ISH iirc.....where was the last one held?
can you remember where? Would reading work for people?
What sort of cost and where etc etc ?
I could be, plus one other.

A bit of a lurker with this thread but never a poster...
I'd like to see what was available in the west midlands for full bore shooting, can anyone advise?
I shoot approx 2 or three times in a week, once or twice a year maximum whenever i'm over in the states on work/holiday and would love to see what i could do over here, except pretty much all info i see online is websites built when the internet was a mere few days old and outdated
Are you looking for a club to join to apply for a licence...?I'd like to see what was available in the west midlands for full bore shooting, can anyone advise?

Or are you asking about looking for somewhere in the UK to do what you do when in the USA...?
If the latter, then you're out of luck really, as that's not really something you can do in the UK. Some clubs do have strictly controlled 'guest' sessions, but it's a case of contacting various local clubs to find out what they can or can't do. Most like won't be full-bore either, and only small-bore.
A few years ago, NRA Bisley used to hold a Open Day event twice a year, where you could pre-book some vouchers and use them to have a short go on any of the many rifle/shotgun disciplines set up and run by many of the member clubs. Was a very good event for introducing new people to the sport, but sadly, for whatever reason, its no longer put on.

Picked up my "new" purchase yesterday. I can't shoot it yet as it's still Section 58 so I could stick it in the front garden and grow roses up it.
Also picked up some brass to use. Here is a comparison to the pop-gun 7.62 Nato and 7.62 Soviet. Now that's a cartridge!
Very nice! I've no idea about live shooters but have an inkling that it's a Henry Martini? Also picked up some brass to use. Here is a comparison to the pop-gun 7.62 Nato and 7.62 Soviet. Now that's a cartridge!
I've some brass too

Well... after a browse in the Beretta Gallery in London a few weeks ago, I went shotgun shopping on Saturday.
I'm a Beretta fan, so started off looking at new Silver Pigeons and such like, but then I spotted a beautiful 687 EELL, and I just couldn't stop looking at it.
Tried it out, felt very much at home with it and that was that. Had to have it.
Very pleased

I tried a 692 last month, and didn't gel with it at all...couldn't hit a barn door with it!!
Tried a Benelli 828U and really liked that, scored well with it, but it does jump about a bit on the shoulder, but I suspect that could be tamed with technique.
Tried an older Browning 425(?) and again got on OK with that too, so a newer 525 maybe an option.
Not going to rush into a decision as yet though.

I'm Oxford way so could do Reading, Wycombe etc. (Bisley even?)
If you're looking for a simulated game day in that area I can thoroughly recommend the Punchbowl & Blowingstone shoot. Had a fantastic day there last year, lots of variety including grouse butts. So much shooting the barrels were scolding.Gassing Station | Sports | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
