Don't do practice swings.
I think this is good advice. Although I do take a practice swing, it's not really anything like my real, committed swing. More of a general path reminder and judge where the ground is in relation to the sole of club practice swing. If I swung all my practice swings like I hit the ball I'd be knackered!!

Out at 6:45 this morning and played ok, missed some easy putts, scrambled a bit but managed a 77, +8 and bang on handicap.
Out again tomorrow so let's see what that brings!
Good man.Out again tomorrow so let's see what that brings!

Of all the Cinque Port clubs, Ryes the most challenging for me, its brutal when the wind picks up, the wind is reversed down here at the moment (SW normal, NE current), makes the hole play plenty different..
I hope your booked in for Lunch at RSG Rosscow!
Ha, no I'm afraid I'm not teeing off until after lunch. Doubt the clubhouse is open anyway, Rye is closed inside until the 17th May due to national restrictions.I hope your booked in for Lunch at RSG Rosscow!

You could be right, my first visit was with a friend was the full four (?) courses and two bottles of red (we had no idea what to expect
), the second time it was raining so we stayed at the table and was completely fulfilled on our visit and did not even hit a ball!
Haha that sounds about right! The Chateau Beaumont, no doubt. Glad you enjoyed it, sounds like a proper day at Rye.![hehe](/inc/images/hehe.gif)

Random point after the mention of lunch, but was chatting with my Japanese colleague last time we managed to have a game together (Feb 2020), and he said it is entirely normal - in fact it is expected - that when playing golf in Japan they will play 9 holes, stop off for a 3 course meal, then eventually make their way round to the 10th after a generous helping of Sake.
Sounds both like a slow play nightmare, but also a wonderfully civilised way of playing golf.
Wonderful until you realise you can't hit a ball anymore! Done that a few times, 18 holes then lunch then give up after 5 holes and head back to the bar!Sounds both like a slow play nightmare, but also a wonderfully civilised way of playing golf.

Even the 76 is damned good shootin Tex, especially after the enforced 3 month layoff. Of the 15 or so low handicappers we have at our club, only one has looked anything like it since we restarted, a couple are struggling to break 90!
I've managed to get next week off, so going to spend some time on the course and range seeing if I can improve on the solid bogey golf I've been playing so far. Going to start at the range tomorrow morning and go from there.
Thanks, yeah pretty happy with that!I've managed to get next week off, so going to spend some time on the course and range seeing if I can improve on the solid bogey golf I've been playing so far. Going to start at the range tomorrow morning and go from there.
Since lock down reopened I’ve shot 80, 79, 90, 90, 87, 85, 76.
I was frustrated as the first 2 rounds back I really played quite well. Then the wheels fell off!
So I spent all week in the garden trying to get some kind of swing thought and I think I’ve found something...
Trying to really be smooth and slow, and make sure I finish the swing fully - holding the pose at the end of the swing has really helped. Putted well too!

Nice shooting!
However, you well know that your next round could be wildly different. I shot 80 midweek (after several low/mid 80s), and managed 96 yesterday![biggrin](/inc/images/biggrin.gif)
I love/hate this game so much![hehe](/inc/images/hehe.gif)
Oh I know, it was only a fortnight ago I shot 90!However, you well know that your next round could be wildly different. I shot 80 midweek (after several low/mid 80s), and managed 96 yesterday

Its a stupid game. I shot 84 yesterday. And that was the absolute worst I could have shot, if that makes sense. It could easily have been 4 or 5 shots better.
I've just shot 94, and had to work bloody hard for it. The wind was a bit stronger and much colder. But my feeling and swing couldn't have been more different.
Still, it could be worse. My playing partner lost 8 balls.
