Ferguson is being found out what he is - a lucky manager.
Mods - can you move this to the Sean Connery Joke thread ?
Is it really a joke? remember that man utd had the same advantage that Morinho has had recently, and the ability to buy whomever he pleased, yet Moriniho gets slated for it, and Fergie is plaudeted.
You seem to have misunderstood my post. My point was that Ferguson was lucky to have that youth team, and without it he would not have had the success (including the treble)that he had. Had United been reliant on his "ability" in the transfer market alone, the outcome would have been very different. Apart from obvious signings, which United could make because they were the dominant force financially at the time and which displayed no particular skill in making (Keane, Cole, etc), how many good signings has he actually made? Less than 10, over a period of 20 years, I would suggest. By contrast (and accepting that not all transfers will be a huge success and there is bound to be a failure rate), he has made dozens of bad ones.
Just taking this summer as an example, do you really think that Carrick is worth £18m, or that you couldn't have got just as effective a player for half that amount? (I'm not saying he's a bad player, but £18m is ridiculous).

you're struggling to grasp this, aren't you
signing, eg, keane was hardly a masterstroke (in the way that, eg - schmeichel and irwin were); anyone with the money would have signed him at the time - like chelscum signing shevchenko now - and the youth team was a fine effort, but by brain kidd, not ferguson. list good v's bad signings and ferguson comes up short and at a club with less money would have come unstuck (a bit like mourinho, i imagine, his signings have hardly set the world alight, for the most part)
will eat my words if you win the league this season, though, and you've made an annoyingly good start ...
