The Ashes 2015

We have already won the ashes, nothing to play for. The Aussies have their pride, and places, to play for; they were always more likely to win this.
I could agreed with that if it hadn't happened before. I don't think anyone can really be surprised at this performance - it's fairly standard.

I think while Moeen is at the crease you can still get to 200+ from here. He can change the game quickly.
If he manages that now he'll be one of very few players who can hold their chin up high (save for the beard!).desolate said:

Have been harping on about it all series, but Bell needs dropping. Your no3 is meant to be a solid run scorer who can take the game to the opposition. He's averaged 23.5 over his last 17 innings and that is somewhat skewed by a 143 in the oldest of them. 16 without that. And 25 for the series. Very poor (and we dropped Ballance!).
So the knives are out for Bell? Seemed to be a peach of a ball that removed him, and if you were watching, neither he nor the world's best batsman were doing very well against some excellent bowling. In the absence of better alternatives I'd leave them be for now.
Aus bowled far better than we did and batted pretty well too. Neither our batsmen or our bowlers are quite as good as they think they are. Good time for a quick reality check.

Well that batting display gives me confidence for the UAE and the Boks...
Did anybody else get the feeling that they couldn't be f

No. They just played poorly on a wicket that was doing a little and Aus bowled well. You know, like Eng bowled well and Aus batted poorly the last two tests. Hey - maybe England 'can't play the moving ball'?Did anybody else get the feeling that they couldn't be f

And so it has been all series, which ever bowling group has turned up has won the game against two relatively brittle batting sides.I do believe that I have made this observation a couple of times now since the end of the 2nd test

He's been a good player, but many others would have been dropped before now (some already have been).

So we're following on.
Can anyone but Cook, Root and Mo score some runs? I can't see us putting on enough to make them bat again unless we actually show some grit. If we do show some grit, and bat through the rest of the day only losing three wickets then I can see us at least escaping with a draw.

Arrogance. Aus presumed the Shock n Awe tactics from the last series would bulldoze thru England. Diddle has always been impressive against Eng for Aus though. He gives control. Mitch x 2 are much more dangerous when they had Rhino and Siddle alongside them to provide control and threat. Siddle should have been picked from the start.

Very true but I guess the selectors saw Hazlewood as being the next McGrath based on his control at home and persevered with him for too long.Anyhoo, back to my earlier statement "both side have brittle batting when the bowlers are on" so far this test has been our turn to turn up but a couple of tests too late to influence the series.
Well bowled Broad in 1, 3 & 4 and a good effort from Root in the first test when the situation called for it.
Quite frankly neither side deserves a spot in the top two of the test rankings but apart from a solid SA & variable NZ there is daylight next

Hazlewood shock and awe?
In hindsight - Siddle might have performed better than Hazlewood. He might not have. We will never know.
