So you think it was intentional?
Yep. Ball was miles away from hitting him on the body. It doesn't really matter. You were never winning that game
You could see even that even Smith knew he was wrong in the post match interview. How much have Australian fallen? Lost the Ashes and now cheating in the ODIs. What a great tour you've had.
Look out for some (more) underarm bowling in the next match.

Last time I checked it was the umpires that gave it out. Laws of the game. All Smith did was appeal. The only person cheating was Stokes. Pure reaction from Stokes. Ball being hurled at him at head height from less than 10 yards. For those that believe he wilfully put his hand in the way, they need to study reaction times - and that includes the Umpires.
They made a mistake and Smith has compounded it post match. To be entirely fair Morgan could have played the post match interview better too.
The problem here is the matter of consequences. Do Australia really want to encourage bowlers repeating this in the hope they prompt a reaction and hit the batsmen?
Smith, Starc et all should be very wary of Stokes' arm at such a short range.
Bonkers.

He was out of his crease. Ball was thrown at the stumps not at him directly. He puts his arm out to stop the ball hitting the stumps. Fairly given out. Even Boycott agreed lol They made a mistake and Smith has compounded it post match. To be entirely fair Morgan could have played the post match interview better too.

Holding, Vaughn, Botham etc all disagreed. He clearly has no time to know where the ball is going other than at him and in the region of his head. Poor decision by the Umpires. Looking forward to seeing what Smith's reaction times are like in the next ODI...

Haha the ball is no where near his head. I am wondering what game you are watching. He got run out at Lords in a similiar way in that he was scared of being hit by the ball and didn't ground his bat and got run out. So should that have been not out as well? stokes just needs to take it on the body if he is that worried. Looking forward to seeing what Smith's reaction times are like in the next ODI...

No, you need to do the watching. Stokes is almost on his arse as the ball is thrown - the TV camera is much higher than Starcs' arm. From Stokes' POV, the ball's at head height. He has no time to decide to wilfully obstruct the ball. It's pure self defence. zygalski said:
Stokes knew exactly what he was doing. Being out of your crease & seeing the bowler trying to throw down the stumps, reaching out behind you to prevent the ball passing is not a defensive action.
If it'd been an Aussie doing it, we'd have gone bonkers if he'd been given n/o.
Even as an Aussie I thought having now seen it that Smith & Starc probably should've call him back. If it'd been an Aussie doing it, we'd have gone bonkers if he'd been given n/o.
Not really worthy of an appeal - even though I am not a fan of Stokes.

Not saying Smith cheated because he didn't but once again, the Aussies seem to lack that certain spirit of the game. You know, the sort they've previously accused Stuart Broad of not having.
You'd think with what happened to Phillip Hughes, they might be a tad more spirited when it comes to a man trying hard not to be clobbered by the ball but no such luck. Never mind, that idiot Warner's out for a while now so it's not all bad.

You mean when broad clearly edged it to the keeper and was out but acted like he hadn't hit it and stood his ground. If this was able to be reviewed by the third umpire (like stokes today) it would have been out as well. Nice try though. Comparing this to Hughes incident is laughable. The ball was nowhere near him as the pic above shows.
You can look at it both ways. In hindsight maybe it was pot luck Stokes stopped the ball hitting the stumps with his hand, but it was going to hit the stumps, and his arm was well away from his body so you can understand why they appealed.,even looking back now both arguments are feasible.
In that case put it to the Umpires to make the call.
England would have appealed just like the Aussies.

Stokes is out of his crease, moving away from the ball and we are supposed to believe that a man with reflexes like his (remember that amazing slip catch a few weeks ago) sticks his arm out away from his body & practically catches the ball as it's heading towards the stumps in defence...
I'm a staunch England supporter but this is obstructing the field in the most obvious way possible.
