played Saturday. Front 9 on temp greens, managed a 9 over...moved onto the back 9 and managed a 2 over 37...finished 1 under through the last 5 holes..what a difference actual greens make! could have broken 80 quite easily if it wasn't for the temp greens! Going off the back of that, should be able to get down to single figures by the end of the season, just need to practice once a week if I can. Only actually hit 4 drives which is probably why I scored so well, didn't fail to reach the green in two on any par 4.
Can't wait for the next round!

I hate temp greens with a passion. The two courses at our place have had a lot of temps out all winter. I can understand it when it's frozen solid, but they put them on temps when it's been raining, but one green that's actually open will be sodden and water coming up from under your feet, then the next is on a temp but the proper green is bone dry. It's so frustrating. I speak to the staff about it, but the only answer I ever get is "It's the head greenkeeper's call", which I get, but it's making me consider moving to another course locally that doesn't seem to close parts of the course so readily.
I can't remember the last time I played a full round on proper greens. I normally don't bother holing out when I see a temporary green. You hit what would normally be a good approach maybe 15ft from the pin, but it's in some manky rough a couple of feet off the temporary

Ahhh.... temporary greens. I remember the days! Sorry boys, that's not nice of me!
In fairness to the green staff, quite often you find yourself playing on a poor, or temporary green, whilst other perfectly good looking greens are closed.
I've found in the past this is because the green staff actually close a certain number of greens whilst playing the others, then they'll swap them over to recover.
So Hapless, you may have been unfortunate to play that green on the last day it was in use before having a week off, when they'll open the other green which has been closed for a week and looks in good condition.

Anyone interested in some very nice Snake Eyes irons? One of our members has asked me to try and sell them for him.
They're Snake Eyes 600C forged irons. From PW to 3 iron.
Project X 6.0 flighted rifle shafts. Lamkin Crossline grips.
Standard length, standard lie.
These things are like new. I'll take some pics later and post them up. He's only after £115 + postage.

No, it's really not. Rosscow said:

I've played at least once a week through pretty much the whole winter, and it's always the same greens closed, despite looking pristine and dry (usually). I get what you're saying, but I'm not sure it's true in this case.On a happier note...Myself and 5 friends are off for a 2 night/3day trip next month to play the Warwickshire Earls course, staying at the Belfry and playing the Brabazon and PGA National on days 2 and 3. Can't wait.

Thankfully due to the work our ground staff have done over the years on drainage, we've been on full greens for all of the winter that the course has been open (it's on clay soil so floods spectacularly easily), so thankfully I've managed t avoid them as well. Luckily if we do play on them we have a local rule that once you're on the temporary, you are down in 2, which makes them a little easier to deal with. Also, just had our confirmations through for the annual trip to Ashbury in Devon. 4 days, 7 rounds of golf, 17 of us in the world's biggest man creche. Cannot bloody wait

Got my new clubs delivered this weekend myself - Taylormade Aeroburner Irons 4-SW, Aeroburner 9.5 Driver and Aeroburner 3 Wood. Huge amount of difference from the old and battered second hand clubs I'd been using last year. Definitely rusty from not hitting a ball for the best part of 6 months, but nice to be back down the range!
On that note, I'm looking for a nice course to play and potentially join in South London. I was a member at Mitcham through last year, but the course wasn't in a great condition through late Summer so looking for somewhere nicer. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Very tidy round, nice one - pity about the two doubles, especially the one at the last. https://shotzoom.com/rounds/52797653782#
I had similar yesterday - 4 birdies in the first 7, then a run of pars, followed by clumsy sixes (from nowhere) at 15, 16 & 17.
Did manage to make a decent par at the last for 39 points but left the course feeling a little flat after such a good start.
Still, the sun was shining, the birds were singing and all 18 holes were open - first time we've had that since October.
Roll on summer..
