The Refs and the League seem to have come to some sort of an agreement. About bloody time.

That's a relief then. Though I know Tom Flores is getting on a bit and can get a bit confused over some details of the rules, as a team, the commentators know what they're doing, and they seemed to think the officials in the Raiders/Steelers game just didn't know the rules for an onside kick.

Not that it mattered in the end, but I also think the lack of any flag for the helmet to helmet hit on Darrius Heyward Bey was a lot of what drove the Raiders in that last quarter. biggrin

Not going to be much help if they need to lose a receiver every time they want to win a game though. rolleyes

How long into the first game with the officials until an equally dubious decision is made?

I'm also amazed that officials have gone on strike over pay. They work Sundays for about 20 weeks per year, for about 3 hours a day. Here are the new details:

"Tentatively, it calls for their salaries to increase from an average of $149,000 a year in 2011 to $173,000 in 2013, rising to $205,000 by 2019".

That must be one of the best gigs going!

To put it in perspective

wikipedia said:
Currently, the terrestrial television networks CBS ($3.73B), NBC ($3.6B) and Fox ($4.27B) — as well as cable television's ESPN ($8.8B) — are paying a combined total of US$20.4 billion[1] to broadcast NFL games as per the current contract that ends in 2013. From 2014 to 2022, the same networks will pay $39.6 billion for the same broadcast rights
wikipedia said:
The agreement became effective after ratification by the players August 4, 2011.[46] Under the new agreement, which runs through 2021, revenue sharing, the most contentious issue during the lockout, was re-designed so that the players must receive at least 47 percent of all revenue in salary for the term of the agreement. Additionally, a limit was placed on the amount of money given to rookies. Fifty million dollars was set aside annually for medical research and approximately $1 billion would be set aside for retired player benefits over the life of the agreement
Without the refs (and gambling) there is no NFL. Not saying anything else as its going to make me sound like I belong in the N&P forum but don't see an issue with the elite ref crews getting compensated for being elite.

I think the players and staff of ALL teams will be on best behavior just as a thanks to real Refs.

If they coached a College team, maybe on better money than this. These are very experienced guys.

Nice to see an NFL thread. Another thread that I have missed in the past!

Giants fan here! biggrin

Got in football about 6 years ago when a work colleague was mad about it. Him and his dad are massive Giant fans so I kind of had to support them. Loved it ever since, can't no watch it every watch.

Just come back from the states. Went to florida, loved sitting in bars at night watching the football and baseball. Eli and Brown were immense last week! Go Giants!

Eagles this week

Am I right in saying the Referee's dispute is over?

I hope so.

Yep, had their first game last night, they got a cheer when they came on! Soon turned to boos on the Raven's first flag though. Lol

Another Ravens win. Will probably be a rematch with the Pats in the playoffs (hopefully with a different outcome!)

More likely to meet Texans, Buffalo are going to beat Pats Sunday, plopping them to the bottom.

Another fantastic weekend for it - glad the packers turned it into a win, cardinals go 4-0 and as for the Red Skins yikes

Oh, and I'm kind of a big deal now. Mike just answered my question on C4 NFL. I'll be doing autographs later if anyone's interested wink

Wow that wasn't very good at all, oh well just the Texans next week... .. I wonder if any more great quarterbacks are due up in the draft next time.

Any given Sunday wink Poor showing for the Jets, and Saints not looking at all hot this year. RG3 is going to go far, great talent.

Really thought Buffalo would get that one, Texans are strong though, and will probably go further than any in the AFC east.

HOLY CRAP!

The end of the Packers / Seahawks game was a complete farce. The replacement officials have truly bought the game into disrepute.

shout Goddell, get off your arse and settle this dispute. Your nickle and diming of the professional officials is making your league a laughing stock.
I was watching that in an eaterie in America last week when on holiday. I had to check with the guy running the place that it was as bad a call as I thought it was. He said he had never seen such a terrible call in all his years.

Just shocking...

As a Packers fan, the ref thing doesn't matter a jot. The poor call by the sub refs made worse last night with the Graham "catch"

Only difference is this time it didn't cost us

Well my Texans go from strength to strength, and with a pretty dire Jets up next I think we will go 5-0.

I think I have a man crush on Ariane Foster.
