Oh don't get me wrong mate; of what I've seen of him, I really like Parker. I think he looks a genuine prospect and I'd certainly agree it was the ideal fight for him at this stage of his career. Yeah, you could argue that it's been his only credible opponent to date so maybe a bit early for a title shot; but there again, that's not really any different from the opportunity that Joshua took...he wouldn't be fighting a seasoned world champion but someone who is still learning their trade and doesn't have a stellar CV, but just so happens to be holding a version of the world title. I think it would probably end up a pretty competitive fight between Joshua and Parker, though I think my money would still be on AJ.
Re: Whyte, and I hate to pick you up on this again after the Takam-'fantastic' point, but calling him a 'crude domestic level slugger' just doesn't match up to the reality of the situation. If you look down his record you'll see, apart from Joshua, he's only ever fought one other British fighter...the rest of his fights have been against overseas no-hopers, so where you plucked the word 'domestic' from, I'll never know!!!
Incidentally, Whyte has just signed a multi-fight deal with Matchroom...as has Eubank jr!
i'd love to find out what eddie has got up his sleeve there!Re: Whyte, and I hate to pick you up on this again after the Takam-'fantastic' point, but calling him a 'crude domestic level slugger' just doesn't match up to the reality of the situation. I've just got around to watching the Parker vs Takam fight, I'm not sure any of the British heavyweight world champions or contenders have much to worry about (we really are being spoilt at the moment) he's a youngster and he'll get stronger and better but for me he's a way off living with Anthony Joshua and that low hand a la Groves and Haye allows for the strong fast double jabs and such but it always scares me as fighters tire that they get caught.
don't agree ref the lead hand mate, it disguises the jab well as it's out of the line of vision. as long as you're good with your shoulder defense and/or feet it works a treat....and don't forget the lead hook as well...nice cheeky shot.this guy was the master at low lead hand

Whether i'd have the reflexes to make it work in reality is another matter completely probably not...I only ever sparred once and got knocked out with head gear on (long time ago now)

as a portsider i find it works for me for jabs and lead hooks particularly. coupled with a step through you're in perfect position to drop the straight back hand in then pivot out off the front foot.
the thing to be mindful of is where the back hand is positioned. mine used to involuntarily pull back like i was holding an imaginary bow and arrow. i got my eardrum popped once with a hook and that was enough of a lesson to keep my back hand glued to the side of my head while leading with the low jab hand

'Kin 'ell, watch out GGG lol only joking . Your comment Tusc on Vitali ..."this guy was the master at low lead hand" he was good but IMO this is the best ever...think Naz must have thought so too, he was great. You know, I often thought that he used to get bored as it was easy for him & lost concentration & get TAGGED. He really was under rated.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VqPqHuAkD_M

Yeah, he was great but like I said, I worry, one of my earliest boxing memories, this and the first Bruno/Tyson fight, my dad did let me stay up and watch a Mcguigan fight but i cant remember which.... Anyway this and the commentary has always stuck with me..https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VqPqHuAkD_M

You're right, I didn't say it doesn't work - it worked for Floyd and Froch and a host of others too, I'm just saying it worries me because like you say the discipline to keep the chin tucked into the shoulder and the other hand as a guard wains as fighters tire and this Parker kid did tire, quite dramatically in the middle of the fight he got caught with some sloppy shots, his corner were begging him not to stand up straight and lean back because his chin was well exposed, I think AJ or Vlad or any big good 1,2 merchant walks straight through him.
speaking as a lefty who's natually a counterpuncher rather than a pressure guy, the worry for me isn't the lead hand being low , rather letting the back hand slip from guard and getting tagged with straight rights from orthodox .i think everyone's different.....i tried to show my pal how to box coming from muay thai and he just couldn't do it my way so he's ended up being a straight up jabber from his chin because it suits his mindset and upper body build.i see parker has split opinions here in that some see good things in him while others don't.....i can't wait for the next few fights to see who's right!

they taught me to pivot by telling me to imagine i was putting a ciggy out with my right foot. stuck with me that did....
i was in heavyweight mode there really , i should have inserted the word "heavyweight" between "the" and "master".........
incidentally, was training down at derry's this morning and a familiar face came in to train....

Just seen that Price is on the Tony Bellew undercard at the weekend, if you need an example of what drug cheats can do to a man/career... He's against Dave Allen (not that one) who's 9-0 and from Yorkshire, I hope Price can come again, it'll be interesting to see what his new coach has set him up like, obviously expect a win.
