Anyone got any thoughts on R1 of the 2020 Draft?

I don't think there were any big surprises.

I set my alarm for 0055 and watched until the Browns picked around 0230. We had 2nd choice of OTs when most mock draft had us having 3rd or 4th dibbs on that position.

I was more interested in the houses... and like everyone else, Kliff Kingbury's:

As a Cardinals fan, I'm really happy with the Simmons pick - I think most people would have expected him to have been taken by the 8th pick.

We're having a good off-season so far when you include the Hopkins trade (for a 2nd rounder and David Johnson and his ridiculous contract), plus adding the likes of Devon Kennard. We do need some help on both lines to keep Kyler on his feet, but also take the pressure off Chandler Jones - but we have the making of a good team in the highly competitive NFC West.

Outside of AZ, and Kliff's impressive pad... I actually tipped Love to Green Bay, my surprise is that they traded up to get him, I wonder who they were worried about nabbing him? Not a lover off the Raiders first round picks - I think they are trying to appear to be smarter than everyone else. Arnette in the first round when he was widely tipped to go in round 3 is a massive leap, plus the riskiest of the 'big' name WRs (Although a man who is drafted wearing a bath robe is ready for Vegas!)

NFL schedule for 2020 to be released tomorrow evening at 7pm CT on the NFL Network.

They have already announced that there will be no London or Mexico City games this season.

It will be interesting to see if they do something like grouping the divisional games either at the start or end of the season, either to keep the travel local early on or allow the further afield games to be abandonned if there's a shortened season.

Shame about the XFL, it was an interesting distraction this year whilst waiting for the NFL draft.

My boy and me were planning on a long weekend in Miami this season to take in a Dolphins game, but I guess we’ll need to put that on hold until next season. Shame really because all the prices looked pretty good going this season, although I have to say I’ve no idea whether they’re low because of the current climate or they’re always that reasonable.

It's the NFL so the numbers don't mean a lot. Most of it is not guaranteed. Pundits seem to think he'll pick up about $180 million over 6 years, so ave $30 million, assuming he stays fit. After that who knows.

No more Redskins. The team has announced that they'll be changing the name after pressure from sponsors. No word yet on their new name.

About time. Snyder said he never would so it's a huge climb down.

They should change the name to the Washington Red Tails. It would be an easy transition and would honor the Tuskegee airmen.

Apart from Tuskegee being in Alabama

If they want to keep with the Indian 'heritage', should rename to Piscataway Conoy or Nentego (Nanichoke)/Nacotchtanks

Looks like it's because FedEx have 'asked' them to.

My money would be on something military - pentagon is close, as are a few bases. Be worth pitching themselves as the team of the US forces. There's a lot of mileage/cash in that one

The (permanent?) Sky NFL channel kicks off this week.

Looks like they will be showing the daily NFL Network shows live (eg. Good Morning Football).

Hopefully the weekly Redzone show is still on the 'Sky Sports Mix' channel as you don't need a sports subscription to watch that.

I see on Twitter that Channel 5 will be showing the Monday Night Football games live.

Also, they will have a Sunday morning 'magazine' show.

So, with the BBC shows as well there's plenty of 'free' NFL coverage for people without a SkySports or GamePass subscription.

Good news - takes me back to my student days when i used to watch every US sport late at night on C5 and then drag myself into college the next day on barely 2 or 3 hours of sleep hehe

Looks like the C5 Sunday show (NFL End Zone) will be a joint NFL / Viacom, US based production, not a UK show.

It appears that the NFL have also extended a deal with Amazon (until '22) to offer an alternative stream for the Thursday night games in the UK

Bit more info on the various coverage deals below:

On a related note - Jay Bell has signed up to take part in Strictly Come Dancing this year, which should be good fun hehe

Looks like the BBC2 midweek highlights show is now gone in favour of a slight extension to the Saturday night show. Expected i guess with the C5 deal and them having a mini highlights package each weekend.

Just nice being able to watch a live game again this morning though. C5 coverage is working alright IMO - hosts have probably got a rough end with the amount of filler they're having to do between breaks / plays (i guess i'm still used to the interval banter between Nat & Mike from the C4 days hehe ) but that's a win considering it's being shown with no ad breaks smile

It seems a real shame BBC have lost ‘NFL this week’. I used to hold fire on searching results until the Tues night show, but can’t see there being the same game coverage waiting until the Saturday.
Where do I now find my highlights package?

There doesn't seem to be a weekly highlights show on the SkyNFL channel either which is a shame - just 'hits' from the tv games.

I'll keep an eye on the BBC Sport's American Football section to see if anything pops up there. There's some brief 'headline' highlights from a couple of games already.
