Talking of past superstars returning...rumours that Evander Holyfield is making a comeback at the age of 56.

GGG tomorrow night.

Too big, too strong and too good for Derev.

I've just seen charlie Edward has vacated his flyweight title. He says it was due to health reasons.

"I can't risk causing damage to myself as health is the single most important thing in life."

His story reads as a weight cut issue but I wouldn't be surprised if it was more to do with the rematch against Julio Cesar Martinez. First fight he had no answer.

Unless GGG turns up he'll struggle, I don't think I'm alone in feeling he's not quite the fighter he was before the Canelo or even the Jacobs fights. Derev is a talented boxer, that said GGG obviously is an incredible puncher and could knock out anyone is he gets. Sniff of weakness. Shame its on so early.

I understand that perspective but I take the view that in Jacobs and Canelo he fought the two best middleweights in the world. IMO he clearly beat Jacobs but we had got used to him knocking everyone out so some saw the Jacobs fight as evidence of decline. No-one will convince me that didn't he beat Canelo comfortably in their first fight. No-one stops Canelo so I can't for the life of me see evidence of decline there. Then the second Canelo, which at worst he drew. And Canelo is a drug cheat.

I think he has a good two years in him and I just hope he can fight Canelo away from Vegas where Canelo will never lose on points.

GGG looks old and a shadow of his former self.

I'm out in India and couldn't sleep. Managed to find the fight. Having not seen much of GGG outside of highlights, I have to say he was rocked a few times in the fight. I think it was the 3rd or 4th round where is looked slow and seemed to want to hide. Great fight though, without the knockdown early on it could have been a different result.

GGG was blowing hard from round 4. Knockdown was to the back of the head and the cut was a clash of heads. I think without the cut he would have struggled to win it. Derev was like a terrier on the inside. Good fight from the Ukrainian. He'll come again

GGG can't win can he? Derev is highly rated and just got clearly beaten by an old man past his best. People can't have it both ways. I think the issue for GGG is his choice of trainer. I'd be surprised if he retains Banks. I think his biggest issue is his fitness. He didn't look slow or as if he has lost power but his fitness did look down on previous fights. Then again he isn't a drug cheat.

Eddie heard did say GGG was ill this week. It's not the first time GGG has been ill during fight week so has credibility there, draining for a weight cut is brutal. By next morning weigh in (@170) he was over and had to completely strip.

Was the move to Banks / away from Sanchez the right one?

The cut was from a jab, clear as day. The ref got it wrong

Agreed. There was no cut present, GGG hit him with a combo, and when Derev turned round the cut was there, At no time did their heads touch during that passage,

Watched it again and I agree that it appeared to be the left cross that did it as Derev swept at his eye seconds later. However, the knockdown was a blow to the back of the head which actually followed a blow to the back of the head behind his left ear. Rematch?

No chance of a rematch. He'll go for the Canelo triple next and I think Canelo will take it on the back of that.

You're probably right.
To correct myself, the first was behind the right ear!
I cannot see past Canelo in a rematch by the way.

Canelo easily beats both the fighters in the ring yesterday. GGG will have to really shape up to be competitive with him. Think he really struggled to make weight as well, a catch weight may suit him more with Canelo.

Definitely agree there is no chance of a rematch. He took this fight as he needed to win back a version of a title. There would be no logic picking Derevyanchenko for a voluntary rematch - it would be a very difficult fight that wouldn't generate an awful lot of interest with the general public.

Next though, I think he will have to do an IBF mandatory, as he was fighting for their vacant title, and they normally insist on one of those pretty soon after someone wins their vacant title.
