Well this is just horrid. Thoughts go out to his family, colleagues and the poor bloke who bowled the ball.

I remember his brief stint for Worcestershire and how well he played for us. God bless Phil

RIP

Very freakish accident, thoughts with his family, friends and team mates. His ex team mate who delivered the ball must be gutted.
Incredibly sad day for all particularly his family.

Having been a bit sharp some years ago and hit a few blokes pretty badly I know how I felt at the time I can't begin to imagine how Sean Abbott is feeling right now, I hope he gets the necessary support.

I am absolutely stunned.

Just horrible news. He was a cracking player to watch, loads of energy. Naturally I feel sad for him, but also terrible for the bowler.

crikey, this is beyond tragic.

there are dangers in some professional sports, but in a non collision sport like Cricket this is just awful.

Just heard about Phil Hughes frown . Only 25 years old, I'm sure he would have gone on to be a fine cricketer for Australia. Feel for the bowler too. Sad, sad day in cricketing history.

I wonder if this will trigger a rule change to ban bouncers?

I know that before helmets people did get hit, but do bowlers now expect the helmet to completely protect the batsman so it doesn't matter if they do hit the head; with no helmets did bowlers restrain themselves from bowling head height a bit. (Obviously there will be times that the batsman ducks but not far enough, or a rogue ball unintentionally bounces but should the rules minimise this as much as possible?)

No. Although I can see it resulting in a slight change to helmet design. Can they be extended down a bit more at the rear perhaps? Might be a bit awkward due to your stance when you're taking your guard though.
