When SpeckledJimmelle lumbered into view and plonked herself down next to me this weekend and saw I was watching cricket she immediately campaigned for a channel change - just as she always does when I'm watching snooker.

I gave her some flannel about 'this not being proper cricket, this is new-fangled exciting cricket' (it was the IPL) and asked her to give it 10 minutes.

Knock me down with a feather - she ended up getting quite into it. I was amazed.

There's no chance whatsoever of this happening with snooker. (Which is a blessing in a way).

Half a pint of strong cider after each frame for whichever player is in the lead.

Cliff Thorburn to be 2015 World Champion.

I'd imagine they could find a few hudnred hardcore fans to fill seats if they moved it to London.

I agree with some of the comments on here.No exciting players left except Ronny.I have been following this game for more than 40 years. It is now boring to watch.

I'm enjoying it, hope Neil Robertson wins it.

I think it suffers from the same problem as poker which is also on the decline.

It was popular in the past because of the people playing and their stories. The commentators spend too much time making the game too technical for the average punter. Who really cares that the cue ball was 5'11" from the red and the red was 16" from the pocket. I'm not interested in the pot % or the safety success. I want to hear about someone pi55ing in a plant pot or chinning the ref.

It's true the game is dying. I play local league and it has been the same faces for the last 15years with nobody new. The only team of youngster in the past few years just disappeared. Mike Wasley, Jack Lisowski and a couple of others. Wonder what ever happened to them.

Personally I think Snooker benefits from having a number of faces (say the top 16 plus a few more) that you generally always see on TV - that way at least they are recognisable

New talent is important but I thought one of the dangers with the new way they are doing snooker is that new players get in over the 'old' lot but no one is interested. I think it takes a couple of years to make it as a recognisable snooker player.

So I am all for new players but I think they should bear in mind Snooker is the kind of game where people like regulars - that is my perception of having watched for approx 20 years anyway

So the quarters:

Selby-McManus
Hawkins-Dale
Ronnie-Murphy
Trump-Robertson.

I want McManus, Dale, Ronnie and Trump to go through but head says Selby, Hawkins, Ronnie, and Robertson will win their matches.

I agree with your head. The robertson trump match could be a cracker but judd hasn't played well this season. Hasn't kicked on the way I expected. He's a great one ball potter but runs out of position amongst the reds too often. Perfectly illustrated last year in his semi final with ronnie.

Well Ronnie and Selby have cruised through. Murphy baffles me - brilliant cue action, great potter, known for his dedication in practice, good at the tactical stuff when he wants to be and only 31. Yet after winning the World Championship as a qualifier 9 years ago he hasn't really achieved a lot. Just 1 more 'major' and 3 smaller tournament wins.

Has all the attributes to win more often yet cannot seem to do it.

So a semi final line up of:

Ronnie vs Hawkins/Dale and Selby vs Judd/Robertson.

I agree he does seem to have it all, but couldn't seem to get over the line in every frame in his 1/4 final vs O'sullivan. personally i am glad he doesnt perform to his potential as i cant stand the guy!

Robertson seems to be doing a Peter Ebdon impression here by playing so slow just to put his opponent off.

Wow have just seen the Dale score. He's come back from 11-5 to lead 12-11.

edit - Hawkins wins 13-12 in the end.

Dramatic last couple of frames in the Robertson / Trump match too. Robertson headed straight for the commentary box after the match to complain about something; I think they said something that made the audience laugh on a shot?
Something about a joke at 7-6? They quickly cut the sound off. Great comeback by robertson.
O sullivan Roberson final?

What's people's opinion on this? Just been having a debate at work about it!

Although I'm not a Trump fan, I actually agree with him & was interested to hear other people's thoughts....other than my mate at work who doesn't seem to understand the difference between a century break & a 147!
