Been ill recently, picked up some sort of virus that made my muscles and joints ache like fk and just physically knocked me for six.
Tried to do an easy run yesterday to ease myself back in but ended up doing some sort of shambolic shuffle coughing like a smoker every 5 strides before eventually vomiting after 1.4 miles. I jogged/shuffled back home to an 8.42 average (usually I can do 7-7:30 for 14 miles on a steady run) and can honestly say I've never felt worse after a run.
Today was much better, still only 3.5 miles but back to my usual pace and managed to keep my food down! I think I'll have to go through a building week before starting back in with the group again.

I'm doing 10k tomorrow as part of a relay team in the Tatton park triathlon tomorrow. Hoping for a sub 50 min, which will be an all time PB for me.
Did a gentle 2 miles earlier today to try out some new trainers. Very minimalist and I could feel my lower leg muscles working a bit more than usual. Will see how the legs are in the morning before deciding on shoes for the race.

A pb by 25s in this mornings parkrun. Unofficial time of 20:00 but don't think I stopped my watch instantly so hope its sub 20 as this has been the target for a while now.
Fingers crossed!Scored a new 10K PB this morning at the Cardiff 10K!
Adopted a negative split strategy as suggested of 8 min miles for the first 5k, though felt very strong at 3k so upped it to 7:50 min miles. Passed the halfway point and opened up the throttle to 7:30 and then did the final 2 miles at 7:10 to bring myself back in at 46:40, over 2 minutes ahead of schedule!
Thirst was not a major issue at the water point and poured more of it over me to cool down. Had a quick chat with a guy running barefoot, wishing him well. Great atmosphere and course, though the starting groups were a mess with me overtaking plenty and not being overtaken once.
Did a Mo-bot crossing the finish!

Week 8 of couch to 5k started, did 4k in 28 minutes this morning.
To be honest, I'm getting a bit bored with the longer runs, I'll finish the plan as there are only 5 runs left to go, but I want to get back to the interval stuff, but do it at a much faster pace, with a longer slower run once a week.

I did Wetherby 10k this afternoon. 50.46 which is a pb for me. As always though I'm still not happy, I wanted my time to start with a 4.
Next time!

could someone please recommend me some running shoes for gym. I have a budget of £70 max.
Cheers.
I always run in asics or new balance. Cheers.
Even the 30-40 quid ones you see in the likes of jjb sports are fine.
Or, you can spend twice that or more and go to a running shop who will make sure you end up with something decent.
I've gone for some of those barefoot style running shoes, looking forward to giving them a try when they're delivered in a few days. Anybody have/tried them?
I've had the same Asics for a couple of years but I keep getting shin splints. Recently I've been getting getting pins and needles below the knee after a few miles.

I went to up and running a couple of years back and got fitted in a pair of asics, now I just go to wherever has the latest version of the same shoe cheapest.
Thanks all, well done to all the new PBs achieved over the weekend - Team GB eat your heart out!
I'm riding the runners' high out and have decided to enter the Bath Half Marathon for next March. Does anybody have any experience of this race? I've heard it's incredibly popular (London Marathon training) and can be a touch crowded for slower runners. The price, an overnight hotel stay and train tickets are already making me wince!
I traditionally do the Silverstone Half in March but my other half complained that she's getting bored of Silverstone and its limited surroundings.
