Must admit this new WHS is completely twisting my melon. Played in the medal on Sunday, shot a very consistent 81 for a nett 71 - or Par as it is known - I have woken up this morning and my handicap has gone up by 0.3 to 9.6. I am confuse.
It is likely that your previous 20th counting round (now your 21st) must have been a good one (rough calc at worst a 78 gross) but is no longer eligible for your best 8 from last 20 rounds hence the handicap rise. SS2. said:
That was great viewing yesterday - as he lined up that 3 footer for the win, my own nerves well and truly kicked in.
He's local to me and I've followed his entire career with interest. So pleased for him to break his duck, and touching to see how much it meant to Tim Barter, too.
Yes, it was great TV! He's local to me and I've followed his entire career with interest. So pleased for him to break his duck, and touching to see how much it meant to Tim Barter, too.

Played great this morning, shooting a +2 (71) playing off 9, not bad considering 71's the standard scratch for the course.
5 birdies in the round offset by 7 bogeys, 3 of which down to putting....let's hope I can keep it going for the medal in a few weeks time.
Wow! Great shooting! 5 birdies in one round - I’ve never done that. Well played!5 birdies in the round offset by 7 bogeys, 3 of which down to putting....let's hope I can keep it going for the medal in a few weeks time.

Sounds familiar. Net 72 (85 gross) for me yesterday. I felt I struck the ball better than the score I finished with.
Technically no 3 putts, but in reality there were a few, putting from the fringes. In my defence, the greens were exceptionally slow and unusually bumpy. I just couldn't hit putts or chips hard enough to get them to the hole. They didn't look like they had been cut for a few days. The holes had been in the same spots for a few days too.

Had our first major on Sunday, and got paired with an eccentric South African gentleman who was struggling to figure out exactly where he was. I was playing my second shot on the first and, in the middle of my backswing, heard a loud Saffer ask "Did you see my ball?", which resulted in a shank and a double bogey start. Then on 3 he picked his ball up in a medal, thinking it was Stableford, then spent the next 5 holes grumbling and rattling clubs when people were playing. Luckily he went in after 9, but the damaged was definitely done by then, and I stumbled round to a gross 89, nett 79.
People like that have no place on the golf course! Disgusting behaviour. We have a match at Royal Blackheath on Sunday afternoon, should be good!

These scorecards are something I can only dream of
Did have three consecutive pars yesterday though, which beats my previous best by, erm, two!
But I play with a smile on my face and that’s (almost) all that matters.
I can remember thinking I'd never shoot in the 80's, let alone the 70's! And yet now I do. I shot 81 on Sunday and was annoyed with myself as it could have easily been 76 just through missed putts alone.Did have three consecutive pars yesterday though, which beats my previous best by, erm, two!

It'll come - it just needs a bit of practice (not loads), the right gear (get custom fitted) and more than anything else a good idea of course management. Be realistic with the shots you can take on!

I've made a conscious effort to get back into golf, my G425s have just arrived 5-SW, driver and hybrid and I've set them up with the Arccos system, they get their first outing tomorrow.
Joined a relatively local place (Carden Park) and I'm looking forward to it.
Before work got in the way I would have been happy to go round in 90, I'm aiming for single figures by the end of year.
Hang on, you normally shoot 90's and you want to be a single figure handicap golfer by the end of the year?Joined a relatively local place (Carden Park) and I'm looking forward to it.

Its not unachievable, but it's quite an ambitious goal! It's taken me about 4 years to get to single figure status (currently 7.4).
Having said that, my practicing and coaching has been pretty much non existent. Running your own business, being the Club secretary and having a wife and 2 youngish kids doesn't leave much time for anything else!!

Just looking at my golfing calendar for the weeks ahead, I have some nice golf to look forward to!

Plus obviously plenty of golf at home in between, and then it'll be marshalling at The Open, and then (fingers crossed) go away on holiday!
Busy busy!

Apart from the club secretary bit, I have the same time constraints.
However, given how little I was playing, to give myself 1 shot per hole today and get 42 points with first outing of new clubs, I'm quietly optimistic it can happen.
Yep, it’s certainly promising! Go for it and keep us posted. However, given how little I was playing, to give myself 1 shot per hole today and get 42 points with first outing of new clubs, I'm quietly optimistic it can happen.
Remember, with the WHS your handicap is based on the best 8 scores from your last 20, so you can make it change super quickly compared to the old system. Just keep putting cards in!

I wouldn't worry about it too much. It will sort itself out pretty quickly under WHS as you put in more cards. This is the beauty of it for me now its easy to put casual rounds towards your HC and your HI will go up pretty quickly if it needs to.
My initial 3 cards were 97, 95, 91. I was given a HI of 14.4. That jumped to 19.5 after a couple of rounds and has dropped steadily to 11.4.
There are a few quirks. Anything over a double bogie is rounded down to double. If you look on My England Golf at your scores you can see where the adjustments have been made.
Also, if you play 9 holes that score is extrapolated to an 18 hole score

Played at Royal Ashdown Forest today.
Course not in great condition - greens were good but fairways have been decimated by leatherjackets. Not good.
Anyway, had to give 2 shots (7 v 9), and it was a really tight match!
Halved the match, both of us had 19 on the front and 15 on the back! Very close.
