Anybody care to hazard a guess, or maybe somebody knows, what the lifespan of a golf ball is? I sometimes wonder when I fish the same ball out of the bag for the third or fourth round whether I'm doing the right thing.
I saw an article the other day that included quotes from someone high up at a large ball manufacturer - I want to say Titleist - who said if it's not visibly damaged, it's fine. This was from someone who had a vested interest in people buying new balls.Well, I went to the range yesterday having bought these
and these with one of my white wooden tees in was exactly the height I wanted for driver. It still took a while to figure out what I was doing wrong, but it took one less variable out of the equation. I think the height I want for driver is a bit higher than a pink castle, so that was £1.50 wasted

Has anyone here heard of "Kraken golf"?
I saw an advert of theirs on Instagram, where I saw a picture of a ball marker that was made like a brake disc. I thought it would be good for us on here, and I even thought of buying a couple as gifts.
Then I saw the price...
Are they having a laugh? Who are these people? Apparently their "limited edition" pieces sell out in "minutes".

Rick's under no impression that he's of tour pro standard. The reason he does break 75 is that 75 is a good score to him. His latest podcast goes into the Sergio video and it's an interesting listen. There is a part where he explains that the videos don't necessarily come out in chronological order, and that's why sometimes he's more positive and he says he's working on his mindset, and the next episode it looks like he's negative again.
Who played over the weekend? My course was closed again so I played the nine hole course attached to the range I go to. Played two balls against one another. It was funny, after 3 or 4 holes I had really personified the balls in my head Found myself thinking, oh, white ball just has to play safe here as green ball looks like he might have found trouble
Course was really quiet, just a couple of people behind me (I had booked the last tee time so I'm not sure how that happened). Stark contrast to the week before where the whole complex was heaving.
270-yard par 4 for the 4th and I was 6 foot shy of driving the green. Off the sixth tee, green ball went cross-country and nearly drove the same green again Green ball ended up winning by four shots (+5 vs +9); white ball did a Scheffler, great tee to green but his putting let him down
In all seriousness, the main bit I was out there to try was driver, and that performed pretty well so I'm happy with that. Played one ball under handicap and one over.

He takes a lot of stick and for all the dodgy shots we see I’m guessing that if you plug his rounds into WHS he’s not going to be too far off scratch (as unlikely as it seems sometimes). I’d think he’s in the 0-2 region even though it doesn’t look like it.
He’s playing hard courses, off the back tees. Not like he’s playing 6,000 yards off the members tees.
Didn't want to spoil too much of the podcast but apparently there is someone on Twitter who's put in all Rick's UK rounds (40-odd) and the lowest handicap was PLUS 3 and the overall was PLUS 0.4, from memory. Admittedly I was only half listening. He’s playing hard courses, off the back tees. Not like he’s playing 6,000 yards off the members tees.

That's one of my go-to courses round here when the weather is less than ideal - while not as dry as Heydon, it does remain open whatever the weather, Greens are average at best. I also use this place as my Driver training ground (although never on the 2nd).
Last two visits, I've hit two balls off the tee on the second - one creamed down the middle and one into the trees on the right. While I'm currently an 18hcap, I am quite a big hitter, so if all goes well I can overpower that course quite easily. Just means it exposes how poor my short game is!!

Launched a driver when I was 15/16ish and it got stuck up a tree while playing with my dad ( who had paid for my driver and my membership!!!)
He sent me up the tree and I've not done it since....
On Saturday we spotted two clubs in the same tree. There's now two and a half clubs up there as we threw a broken one up to try and get the first two down.He sent me up the tree and I've not done it since....

I've gone the complete opposite, really stripped down what I need on the course and am now carrying with a single strap bag. Loving it!
I'll still use my push trolley if the weather looks ste and it's a waterproof kind of round.
Very cool indeed, although I prefer a stand for convenience.I'll still use my push trolley if the weather looks ste and it's a waterproof kind of round.
It's how my brother plays, always a sense of freedom compared to using a trolley

Oh no! More golf and less posting in 2024 perhaps
O really enjoy this thread, a nice place by PH standards, a goal for 2024 would be to play with some of you PH chaps
By the way, DuncanM, I just ran my script that counts everyone's posts and you're currently quite a way in the lead again O really enjoy this thread, a nice place by PH standards, a goal for 2024 would be to play with some of you PH chaps

Don't blame him. They shouldn't have allowed anyone to stand in front of him IMO, no need to add to the pressure.
No one should ever stand in front of an amateur golfer, and I wouldn't want to be stood in front of a pro either tbh. Accidents happen. Look at Max Homa the other day, that could've quite literally ended a lifeWas visiting my dad over easter and so, as usual, played the 9-hole at Felixstowe while I was there. Went round twice. First was pretty disastrous, with some good holes being completely obliterated by an 8 and a 7 on two consecutive par fours!
On the plus side, my putting was MUCH better than the weekend before. This weekend I was leaving long puts <6 inches, getting reads right, grazing edges... the week before round Bar Hill I might as well have been putting blindfolded after being spun around twice.
The highlight though was a 3 wood from 260 yards to 8 feet. Typically it wasn't my scoring ball but one I'd thrown down after topping one. The scoring ball made a double, although had a look at par despite topping said three wood and a 5i off the tee that went about 40 yards! Yes, it lipped out for a bogey as well!
