He’s a habit of standing up too straight. I presume left shoulder forward is to help that. I don’t get involved, he won’t listen to me.
Is he taking lessons? It's a very nice swing, and the ball flight looks good too. He’s been playing and practicing twice a week for a month now having not played for 6 months due to cricket, and the improvement is fantastic. He’s generally very athletic and picks up sports very quickly.
Until recently he enjoyed golf but got frustrated too easily. Now he can hit the ball like this he’s hooked.

Thanks all.
Hes been told him to push his left shoulder forward to square up. Same difference I suppose. He sets up square then like many of us, opens up when looking at his target.
I don’t know where the over swing can from. He only started doing it last night. I suspect because there was a slightly older boy in the next bay hitting it further, so my lad is trying too hard.
Not quite the same thing, pulling the left shoulder forwards will likely be quite hunched over the ball. Pushing the right shoulder back, "retracting" so the chest comes out will work much better. Might also solve the overswing. Excellent Crossfield explanation here:Hes been told him to push his left shoulder forward to square up. Same difference I suppose. My 8 year old loves golf. Has been playing for a year and a half. He has a set of Lynx clubs with a matching bag, but we are finding the bag a bit small for all the extras. It is a struggle to fit a waterproof, umbrella, drinks bottle, snacks, etc into the pockets. Is there a junior bag out there with lots of storage?

The Ping Hoofer junior is a good bag. Had a fun range session with Ashfordian last night, playing a virtual round at Close House. Not sure about the scoring, I finished nett -4 or something despite playing off a handicap 6 lower than my real one, but hey ho. Kept the really poor shots to a minimum and must have been doing something right as my back isn't as sore as it has been after the last few visits.
I am going to get on to Close House and ask them to stop making their greens out of concrete though and use grass like everywhere else. Rollout was a joke

Assume this is a good thread to ask - Dad wants a golf umbrella for Christmas, can anyone recommend? Always happy to spend good money on my Dad of course, so is there such thing as the 'upper end' of the scale when it comes to a brollie?
TBH they are all pretty much the same. Definitely get him a double canopy one as they are good in the wind but I'd look at getting him one that is the same brand as his bag or his clubs.bodhi said:
I've got a Motocaddy one which is double skinned and has a really useful clear window in the material at the front, so if the rains driving into you you can tilt it down and still see where you're going - think it was about £40.
Like this? Great shout on the clear window: https://evolutiongolf.co.uk/products/motocaddy-cle...UTH said:

Not a golfer myself, and not even sure what the old man uses to get his clubs around the course, I'm assuming some sort of trolley.....

I wouldn’t get into any brolly attachments without knowing for a fact it’s compatible..Will this fit on anything for holding it? https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08NTWM4NK/?coliid=I3V...

This window in a brolly thing.. blimey you guys are keen.. if it’s that bad out there I’ll give it a miss..
To change the subject.. just played Thorpe wood Peterborough again. Public course, £22 and greens wouldn’t be out of place anywhere for the time of year. I have a home made stimp and they are closer to 8 than 7, rolling very nicely. It’s fairly flat and low lying but hardly any mud, super impressed with it overall

Alright Bryson Played Thorpe Wood years ago, typically considered brilliant value for money condition wise.
Only 45 mins from me.

As you said, you have a good range game, and you comfortably beat me gross score. To me it demonstrates where your game has the potential to get to.I am going to get on to Close House and ask them to stop making their greens out of concrete though and use grass like everywhere else. For me the range shows up my weaknesses and doesn't allow me to get anything back with my short game and putting. It has definitely given me some thoughts that time spent on the range over this winter, primarily improving my ball striking could yield results on the course.
p.s. Your back is probably healthy due to the rest you got between shots, particularly off the tee as I don't think there was a second shot over the virtual 18 holes where you had to play first.

Hello, did you treat yourself to a new club fitting? I remember you mentioning you might, after shooting a low score. Your irons (from memory) will have weak lofts compared to today's offerings, and you mention distance being an issue for you.For me the range shows up my weaknesses and doesn't allow me to get anything back with my short game and putting. You could probably end up with a 7i that carries as far as your current 5, and will be easier to hit.

It's probably that, and the fact that my usual range sessions just end with me pumping the last 30 or 40 balls with driver as hard as I can Gassing Station | Sports | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
