That was some battle. Well done Conor, seems to have learnt a lot from the last fight, played a very tactical game last night.
Indeed, he ran away whenever he was about to gas out (and, to be fair, should have had points deducted). I think Diaz won, hands down. I don't really care for the guy, but he fought his typical fight and picked up steam as the fight went on. He also nearly finished Conor twice at the end of the round. Personally, barring a knock-out or submission, I think the plan was to give it to Connor. All he had to do was survive.

I assume you missed the parts where Conor knocked him on his ass... three times. Conor landed far more shots than Nate did. And you though Nate won hands down? Bizarre.
Significant shots landed stat was 164 to 166. And total strikes landed heavily favored Diaz at 252 to 197. No stats on time spent running away, unfortunately.
Like I said, not a Diaz fan, but the McGregor hype is, well ... Let's just say he needs to go back down to 145.

No, didn't miss those. Diaz is a slow starter who needs to find a rhythm. He got right back up if you also noticed, and nearly finished Mcnugget twice at the buzzer.

The thing is they don't score the fight overall, they score each round individually.Significant shots landed stat was 164 to 166. And total strikes landed heavily favored Diaz at 252 to 197. No stats on time spent running away, unfortunately.

Diaz may have landed more significant strikes overall but Conor landed more in rounds 1,2 and 4 which is all that matters.

Can't argue with that. His cardio at 170 is lacking. Nate would have had him if there was another minute or so in the 5th.
Yes. He's a good fighter, but I've long thought much of his success was due to fighting smaller men. They can't take his power and size at 145, and he finishes them quickly.Despite all this talk of Nate being a hulk, he is a natural 155er. Not sure how McG would fare in that division at this level.
I'm sorry but at no point did Diaz nearly finish Conor. At all.
Yes, he landed some shots. And managed one takedown with 9 seconds to go.
He had a good 3rd, and come on strong in the 5th. Cool. But he didn't do enough to win at all.
And if you really class Conor intelligently backing off and resetting as running then there's really no point discussing it further.

Diaz wasn't really punching at times although Conor was running away which is rather 'unsporting'. I think Nate's big mistake was getting into a striking battle, he didn't even go for a take down until about R3/4. Conor had no real answers off his back and it's only a matter of time before he gets taken down and demolished on the ground again. After the first few rounds you could really see Conor's cardio go and he looked vulnerable.
I can't say i'm that interested about a third fight. I'd rather see Conor rematch Aldo. Or get destroyed against Dos Anjos like he was meant to originally.

It was definitely a close one and on some days I could see Diaz would have won that decision. It definitely wasn't a clear cut win for Conor. The cynic in me says that if Diaz won 2nd fight as well, there would be no third fight so the judges went with Conor. Now it's 1-1 and at some point the UFC is going to cash in on the third fight.
A decision was going to Conor regardless of what Nate did. Nate had to finish him. g4ry13 said:

Me neither. I think the Dos Anjos fight needs to happen. The Aldo fight was a fluke, but I still see Conor's size giving him the edge in that match, regardles. Once he permanently moves out of the midget class, at this level, he is going to be in for a rude awakening methinks.I'm not sure now.
I think it's more closely matched that I initially thought. It wasn't that long ago that Nate completely dominated Cerrone and look at Cerrone at the top of this page. I would have said that Dos Anjos would have rag-dolled Conor until I saw the Alvarez fight. There's obviously the wrestling question, and Nate isn't a wrestler, but he struggled to take Conor down. To complete the loop, Cerrone has a recent victory over Alvarez.
I think, on a good day, Conor has a chance against any of the above. Not sure about Khabib though.

I realise I'm a bit late to comment but I've only just got around to watching 202, I thought McGregor won it very easily and whilst he appeared to have a dip I don't think he was ever in imminent danger of loosing, any knock down power Diaz had was knocked out of him in rounds 1 and 2, McGregor was never going to get caught grappling on the ground again after last time. Diaz is undoubtedly a tough bd though, there were some pinpoint accurate left hands from conor in the first two rounds that would have destroyed almost anyone at any weight.
I don't see the point of a rematch, they both should be fighting at 155 anyway and the only time id be interested to see them rematch would be for the 155 title if one of them could win it, most likely Conor.

Rory going with the money, can't argue with that.
It seems like a couple of people have got his number in the WW division, but he does have a dominant win over the current champ. He's stalled a bit with the UFC and is unlikely to get any higher paid fights in the near future so probably needs to go to Bellator for the $$$. Could easily have won the belt had fate been slightly kinder.Still top 5 minimum IMO.
