A couple of fights back I would have thought Smith had an outside chance in a fight like this but he seems to have gone off the boil a bit. Maybe he will up his game and go up a level and perform in his biggest fight.

An ‘enhanced’ Alvarez wins (unfortunately) for me but I’m glad to see Smith has been given the opportunity and hopefully he at least puts on a show.

Good to see fights of interest being put on though smile

This could be the fight of the year after the slightly tedious lomo lopez fight!

Will be interesting to see what people regard as fight of the year actually although we will probably need all of December to decide. AJ has his walk through to come but can't see that being a particularly competitive match.

Povetkin has to take win of the year but the match wasn't outstanding really. Have we really had a proper war this year?

He's not my favourite human being either. I look forward to the day somebody beats him. I just don't see where that's coming from at the moment unfortunately.

Only morally, not technically. I want him hammered into the canvas so there’s doubt. biggrin

it's going to be an interesting fight.... smith will be watching how kovalev controlled canelo off the jab with his height and reach advantages (before the mysterious capitulation!)..

canelo will be watching how ryder negated smith's height and reach advantages by getting underneath and inside...

the story of the fight will be which of the those 2 mentioned fights were a better representation of the reality.. i.e.... did kovalev lie down (because it certainly fking looked like it) or did smith just have an off night against ryder (i personally really rate ryder and for me it would be a disservice to him to assume smith was just having an off night)

I worry for Smith having to deal with Canelo's vicious body shots.

If he can keep the fight long, he has a chance of a points win.

I rate Smith very highly. He's the best from the Smith family by a fair margin. I think he's got a good chance of pulling this off.

Canelo isn't the most likeable guy, however he is talented and earns some respect from those times he shows genuine concern for opponents after he's flattened them (rather than celebrate). Probably more in a "oh st, my medically-enhanced strength has gone too far" kind of way, but concern nonetheless.

that's what i was getting at pal... he needs to study how kovalev nullified him before the weight draining and/or the financially incentivized unfurling took hold...

my worry is yet another canelo trick of getting in training to seemingly fight one guy (caleb plant in this instance) to suddenly switch to another guy only 4 weeks out.... even if smith has known about this behind the scenes for a week or 2 its maximum 6 week camp.. far more likely to be between 4 or 5.... nowhere near enough....

and lets not forget another bullst rehydration clause for good measure..

he's gone from one of my favourite fighters when he was coming up to this loaded dice drug cheat these days.... god i hope callum can keep his discipline and keep him off... but such a short camp and rehydration clause.....

I really really hope Smith pulls it off. I was a Canelo fan and I still do rate him very highly but the whole affair with GGG left a sour taste.

The excuses get better and better rofl I honestly believe his told himself so many times that he was ‘robbed’ and ‘cheated’ that he actually believes that rubbish now. Probably surrounded by yes men telling him how great he is and how Fury got lucky.

^^ Could just be clever marketing, get the money up and the fight will be made.

Wilder is taking legal action, and the arbitration judge is going to decide if the re-match clause is still valid. Tyson's December fight has been cancelled so perhaps Warren thinks it's quite likely to get upheld?

Rather see Fury-Wilder than Fury-Nobody.

No chance of the gloves been tampered with in terms of something put in them but in yet to see a reasonable explanation for the floppiness of his gloves in some of the shots.

Going against the grain here, and not for the first time, I'm a huge Canello (the fighter) fan. I think class tells here and he might even stop the durable Smith, who IS world class, just not elite.

Twice.

But if you can't stomach watching those again, then watch Mayweather make him look like a novice.

That alone redeems Mayweather in my eyes forever. Canelo with an 0 would be unbearable, especially as we now know he will need to be decapitated to lose.

Have to agree the preparation is inadequate and the Kovalev fight stank.

Does Smith look after himself between fights?
