The **BOXING** thread (Vol 3)
Discussion
I agree about Canelo in that if he has a weakness in technique it would be his footwork. I also agree BJS is a good mover but he's nowhere near Mayweather's level. I think it's widely accepted that you need to KO Canelo to win and even then I suspect they'd find a way to disqualify you.
I don't see anyone being able to KO Canelo apart from GGG and if it had to be at 168 then I'd still like to see the fight. In terms of physical weakness, Canelo is quite short so I think he will stay away from light heavy. The win against Kovalev was highly suspect and although he dominated Smith he couldn't put him or Jacobs away. Maybe there's a catchweight compromise to be made with GGG. There surely cannot be a bigger payday for either of them.

GGG had 24 rounds to ko him. I cant see Canelo being knocked out by a big guy with a bat! I'm really not bothered about knock outs and my comments are in the context of discussing the only way to beat Canelo given the obvious bias in the judges whenever he fights.

I don't think there is anyone out there at the moment who can beat Canelo, not unless he finds there are no more worlds to conquer and he tries it on with the young lions in the light heavies.
But if he doesn't go that way then we will have to wait till age catches up with him - someone will come along eventually, they always do.

One of my earliest boxing memories was when Spinks beat Ali.
Both Leon and Michael suffered for the fact that in the 70s and 80s all the money was in the heavyweight division thus forcing the smaller guys to try their luck against much bigger and stronger guys.
Michael won middleweight Olympic gold and ended up being one of the great light heavies - ruined of course by being forced to step up. Leon was a more limited fighter but had a career that included light heavyweight Olympic gold and beating Ali so not too shabby by any means.

I had thought Leon had died a wee while ago, I know he was in hospital. A wild, crazy man, and he DID beat Ali!! Swarming flat out style perhaps mimicked the way he led his life? Find peace Neon Leon. Anyone listen to the boxing podcasts from Mike Costello and Steve Bunce?
I set off on a long hike today and downloaded a few. The interview with Kellie Maloney is a must listen. Really interesting and very funny stories along the way.

Bunce can be a bit grating with the constant repetition of catchphrases but generally passes the miles whilst I’m driving.
Boxing Life Stories with Tris Dixon is a level above any other boxing podcasts.
Daniel Kinahan has released a statement about his involvement in boxing. Despite the media and boxers saying he's just giving advice. He now claims to be organising the big fights.

Bunce must have a load of fascinating stories from his time in boxing bu his method of dispensing information is painful to listen to and deters me from listening to the pod. I did, however, listen to the Maloney one which gave some interesting rose tinted stories about maloneys past in boxing, worth a listen.Bunce can be a bit grating with the constant repetition of catchphrases but generally passes the miles whilst I’m driving.

The subject is an intersting one. There seems little doubt that he operates in murky waters, but he has no convictions. None. Is it OK to live in a society which could, presumably, stop people making a living on unsubstantiated claims alone? If we have one rule for all, it must cover all and sadly that means until Kinahan is convicted he is probably cleaner than many of his fighters...and they are allowed to fight. Difficult one.
