I'll give that a listen. BBC did a "greatest fights" series in Covid with walk throughs with people that were there for some really epic fights absolutely captivating

I'll have to watch it again. My memory is of Groves showing the better quality but that sense you always had with Froch that he had the firepower to hurt you at any time. I remember the difference in battle damage on each at the end was telling and although I thought the stoppage was premature I also thought it would have happened anyway. The second fight wasn't dissimilar iirc with Groves choosing to bring a knife to a gunfight against one of the best gunfighters in the business. What a chin Froch had as well.

Nah a pale skinned guy marking up doesn’t mean much.If you do watch again please post your updated thoughts.
i saw groves on the quigly/dodson card up here.. think it was his second or third fight.... and he was sensational.. i remember to this day being really impressed by his jab and range. i knew the name from the amateurs and was aware he'd won the ABA's but i don't recall ever seeing any of his amateur fights.... i remember posting excitedly about him in this very thread...
onto froch/groves 1 i'll need to watch it back but my memory of it was that he was incredible early doors and remained one step ahead through those early rounds....froch looked to be fighting through fog.. but looked like he was closing the gap before that absolute dogst stoppage.

I watched the fight again last night I'm not so sure it wasn't a valid stop. Rewind and watch the stopped part 2/3 times.onto froch/groves 1 i'll need to watch it back but my memory of it was that he was incredible early doors and remained one step ahead through those early rounds....froch looked to be fighting through fog.. but looked like he was closing the gap before that absolute dogst stoppage.
Groves had been buzzed and ended up facing away from Frotch bent down and moving away he wasn't defending himself and that's when Foster stepped in. Even if it wasn't stopped at that point I still think Frotch was coming strong and Groves was getting easier to hit.
Can a count be issued if the fighter stops defending himself? Or did Foster have no choice but to stop it?

Groves was defending himself, he just wasn't punching at that particular moment.
You are allowed to gather yourself and regroup in Boxing. It would be a dull and very quick sport indeed if every fight got stopped after someone got buzzed.
He was at 90 degrees to Frotch you are supposed to face your opponent so in that respect it was a valid stoppage. I'm not sure if Groves was thinking the ref had dived in to break them. He certainly wasn't out of it if anything it was a lapse in concentration but technically a valid reason to stop the fight. He wasn't in a position to be hit or to defend himself I just want sure if a count can be issued in that circumstance. You are allowed to gather yourself and regroup in Boxing. Women's boxing really needs to graduate to 3 min rounds as currently the fights are too short for fatigue to truly impact - the fights are over in the blink of an eye.
Move to 12 rounds in Championship fights first and then plan ahead to go to 10 x 3 minutes after a year or so to give time for adjustments in training and conditioning.
