Does anyone else here with kids ever have an unplanned break?/ Ive two small kids and so realistically the only time i have to run is first thing in the AM but the last few nights ive been up with a child with teething issues so haven dragged my carcass out of bed when the alram went off. I usually budget to do 35+km a week and to this end im at about 700km for the year. I'll struggle to get near this figure this week with the way things are going however. Im thinking of either going for broke and doing two super earlys and go try for a half marathon distance or writing the week off. Thing is im chomping at the bit to get out. Its not like im feeling tired at all.. what would the consensus here do??
All the time, moreso in the last few months due to various changes both I and my boy's mum have had to make to accommodate the lockdown and now working restrictions. My boy now spends most of his time with me, so I have precious few spare evenings/days and when I do, I'm often so knackered I don't have the motivation to go for a run. Hopefully things will get back to normal more in a few monthsajap1979 said:

Nike Pegasus turbo 2 purchased this morning for £32.00
Not sure what to use them for, I do 2 interval sessions a week 2 easy runs and 1 long run.
Where from? I paid £159 a few weeks ago Not sure what to use them for, I do 2 interval sessions a week 2 easy runs and 1 long run.
Local DW sport shop is closing down, I went in there today, there were 5 pairs of running shoes on display one of which was the peg turbo 2 no price I assumed £100 and would have been happy with that, when she said £32 I couldn't believe it! Goes down as the best bargain I have ever got!

They're a difficult shoe to pigeonhole to be honest, mainly because they're actually quite a good everyday shoe, but handle pace very well too. I've taken them up to 10 miles, but I think I'd find them too soft for runs much longer than that. At the minute I'm concentrating on polarised training and they're being used for the hard runs, intervals etc. I used them for a fartlek run the other night and they were great, because they'll more than happily mush along at 9 /mi, then they'll instantly react when you turn up the pace to 5 /mi. It helps that they're incredibly light!
Good to know thanks, I will try them on a few types of runs and see how I get on then. very different to my Boston 8's that I lovejoshcowin said:

I justify it by saying, rest is good for the body, at my and possibly your level it probably wont have any detrimental effects on your fitness.Just run when you can as you say maybe this week just do 2 sessions you enjoy and forget about milage!? I would do a fartlek 10km and a quicker interval session (6x4min with 2 minutes rest)
On your other comment re the Nike Zoom's. I have a pair of pegasus turbos that I use mostly for speed work. They are super bouncy, alot different to the bostons (also have a pair of those). Im not sure they would be good for you in the context of a long distance run. Im inclined to say the Bostons would be better.

I went and did 18.25km this morning. Garmin isnt working so i can really see what the actual figures were but I think I got the ave under 5mins per Km. Incidentally I havent done fartlek since the lockdown as i would usally go to the track near work or the gym. I might start that again as I feel ive lost an edge on the times.

I love my bostons I have a pair of solar boost also that I currently do my longer runs in they are good just not that exciting.
I will do my long run in my bostons this week and see how that goes!

If anyone is running tonight and they use Garmin to upload to Strava etc, I'd take your phone with you. Sounds like Garmin has been hacked.
You can use your Garmin to record the activity as usual, but then upload manually to Strava:If you plug the watch into a PC using the usual Garmin cable and browse to the ‘activity’ folder you’ll find a bunch of .fit files. Copy the most recent (or the one you want) to your PC, then in Strava click the plus (+) icon to upload manually, choose ‘Garmin’ and then pick the .fit file you just copied. You strictly don’t need to copy it off the watch, but I was paranoid Strava would ‘tidy’ it up when it has finished I don’t know what happens when Garmin comes back online and the activity appears in Garmin Connect - I hope Strava knows it’s recorded that one already and doesn’t sync...
I am just going to wait till its all back up and running and I am sure my watch will send it all over to the relevant apps!
I haven't always had a device that logs everything and used to train just as hard. I do love looking at the activities afterwards now though!
Fortunately I sent my training plan to my watch in one hit so all my workouts are on there ready for me to follow which is handy.

I really hope there hasn't been a data breach, or any loss of data. It seems to have effected everything, the Garmin store is down, Garmin Connect is down, call centres are down (telephone systems, email and online chat). Even the production line in Taiwan is down, and the aviation database on the Garmin navigation equipment that pilots use.

Don’t manual entries not count towards challenges etc?
Anyway, I ran 9 miles with my phone in my back pocket and it felt strangely liberating not having data on my wrist!
If you load direct from watch to Strava, it should be fine as it's still actual GPS data. If you go in and add a run to Strava by inputting miles, time etc, then no, it won't count towards challengesAnyway, I ran 9 miles with my phone in my back pocket and it felt strangely liberating not having data on my wrist!
Says the man whose watch failed 3 hours into a 100km run. No "most distance in a week" club win for me. Boooo.
