Wasn't referring to you or actually anyone on here as a casual fan. Do any casual fans ever post on here?
Apologies then man, I must have mistaken you for another poster. Mea Culpa. beer

Points about Fury and the others remain though. If AJ can't get into the title mix, I wonder if he'll take the money fight with Wilder..? Or rematch with Parker for a title that becomes vacant?

Not really a fan of boxing anymore for various reasons - used to love it when I was younger. My first taste was the big four middle weights - Sugar Ray, Hearns, Hagler and Duran on a small tele in my room late at night.

Looking back now I thought it probably wouldn’t be that good - but stubbled across Hagler/Hearns 1985 on Sky now - my god what a first round - what a fight.

Is this era peak boxing?

First, second and third rounds, were all great rounds.
Yes. A era of peak boxing with the four kings.
Sugar Ray, Hearns, Hagler and Duran .

I watched most of those whilst I was at university, a long time ago, and not long after that I was shouting at the tele to tell Bruno to punch Tyson again and the fight would have finished.

Struggle to get into it these days.

tbh I'm having trouble as well but put it down to rose tinted spectacles, only good thing with the last few heavy weight fights is that it's done and dusted by midnight, the fights in Saudi have no buzz but it beats the 5am time zone for East coast fights.

They absolutely do, especially when a major fight happens with one of the famous boxers (i.e. one who is known outside of boxing). I find it great seeing so many taking an interest, and really enjoy this group as there generally isn't any bickering.

I still haven't forgiven Tusc for not inviting us to that event in MK though.

Ben Davidson has unlocked the old Joshua and the sport will be all the better for it.
I think there's a bit of this, but it's being overblown.

If Joshua is facing someone he can time the distance well with and that gives him looks, he generally bangs them out. He did with Pulev and Helenius post Ruiz, it took him longer but they are pro boxers

I don't think he lost to Usyk because he's gun shy, he looked gun shy because Usyk adjusted to everything he tried, was beating him to the jab, making him miss and punishing him every time he committed. If AJ isn't confident he's got his distance and timing down, he's not throwing heavy leather. He's been like that since Klitschko and he's a a better fighter for it.

Ngannou gave him look after look after look, and AJ had the distance down after about 30 seconds. The KO punch, or a KD, I can't remember, you see an Ngannou jab stop half an inch short of his nose after AJ takes a half step and he doesn't even flinch and then throws the right hand. If Usyk had allowed AJ those kinds of looks, he'd have got smashed to pieces as well.

We shouldn't overindex on this performance because Fury shat the fking bed. Joshua did what he's supposed to do against a novice. Davison does seem to be helping AJ double down on what he's good at, but I don't see much evidence of a totally transformed fighter, he's had 2 fights under Ben, one against a guy who could barely beat Sokolowski and has no power, and another against a guy who isn't a boxer. He's facing much worse opposition than when he has lost. That is a large contributing factor to the differences you're seeing.

I think i agree with that. What I'd add is that some confidence building successes were absolutely necessary if he was ever to get in with the elites again. That's been accomplished now, so the next fight should be Hrgovic or Parker, assuming Fury and Usyk do fight twice. I think he'll stop Fury if ever they fight but I think he can only beat Usyk if the Ukrainian ages badly. I can't see why Usyk would want to carry on if he beats Fury - he really would have nothing to prove. It's a bit more complicated if Fury bottles it - but I guess then he fights one or both of the two I've named as potential Joshua opponents.

PS I think AJ does look more confident. He's probably too far down the line of his career to fundamentally change his game.

One question does remain though Fury is supposed to be the skilled "boxer" AJ was always more of a puncher with a 7/10 boxing IQ....how did he outbox Francis when Fury just looked confused?

I have a feeling Usyk will retire after beating Fury theres just nothing left for him to achieve and I don't get the impression he's overly bothered about the money.
