Yes, I've gone Dorticos vs Gassiev. Dorticos is a machine, either that or a great poker face, great jab but Gassiev's hooks look sweet.

I think Dorticos' output has been enough to hang in there. Gassiev is too shattered to get him out I think.

Shades of Ali vs Frazier about that. Whoever put this tournament together should be knighted. We're set for a hell of a final.

Noticeable the referee had absolutely nothing to do throughout the match as well (until the end)

Even without the last round that was the most impressive performance in the cruiserweight competition so far.

With the last round... Wow.

fking hell! That left is deadly. Credit to Dorticus for standing up to so much punishment and giving it back. Never good to see someone through the ropes like that.

Okolie and Chamberlain stunk up the O2 there. By the 9th round half the seats were emptying.

They were both trying but sometimes the fire just doesn't catch. One of those rare fights where both fighters come out of it with their reputations diminished.

Gassiev v Dorticus though, wow, that was a proper Cruiserweight fight - Gassiev can certainly bang. Looking forward to the final.

FWIW the cards were very fair to Dorticos tonight. Anyone's fight going after 9 rounds.

I had Gassiev ahead by more than those cards. He was connecting far more all night. Dorticos looked one dimensional in comparison.

I always thought that Super Middleweight was my favourite weight, I felt it was the best balance between speed, strength and stamina. However, after the last few cruiserweight fights I've seen (mainly as they have been spoken about so much on this thread), it's rapidly becoming my favourite division. All the top fighters seem to be able to last 12 rounds and still be able to deliver a knockout blow.

I have to say, the Ali Trophy is great, gets rid of all the politics and has flung up some great fights. Can't wait for Eubank Jnr and his next fight.

That Gassiev/Dorticus fight was an absolute cracker, fair play to both men. Gassiev was humble in victory and comes across very well. Hope Dorticus is OK this morning.

Dorticus must have a solid chin as he took quite a few hits, sheer number of hits took it's toll in the end. Gassiev boxed well and didn't underestimate Dorticus (he is a big hitter) and took his time, a very professional display. I'm looking forward to the final, if it is anywhere near as entertaining as this one, it will do boxing no harm.

Cruiserweight is probably the most under-appreciated weight class in boxing; perpetually, as it has been in, the shadow of the Heavyweight division. In a way, that’s understandable, given it clearly doesn’t have anything like the history, nor does it have the cachet of being the division of the biggest guys around.

However, I’d say the status of the Cruiserweight division is on the rise, and I think a big part of that is to do with the increased presence of the former Soviet bloc in the professional sport now. From a US-centric perspective, you can see why Cruiserweight would be nowhere in comparison to Heavyweight; with an ancestral line including the likes of Johnson, Dempsey, Louis, Marciano, Liston, Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Holmes, Tyson...you can understand why the Cruiserweight division is perceived very much as the poor relation. However, while that list of fighters undoubtedly has significance across the entire boxing world, in all likelihood it won’t resonate in quite the same way amongst those former Soviet bloc countries - and why would it, given they weren’t active participants in that strand of history? Consequently, in terms of it’s perceived status, the Cruiserweight division doesn’t suffer in comparison to the same degree. Added to that, the division actually has a pretty rich history in this country too (thanks to the likes of Johnny Nelson, Glen McCrory, Carl Thompson, Enzo Maccarinelli, David Haye and Tony Bellew) and seems well-respected in places like Germany as well...all countries/regions that have taken a significant stride forward in recent years in respect of their profile and importance in professional boxing vs the USA (particularly true of the heavier weight divisions).

What I’d really like to see is the WBSS establishing the division to the extent that anyone who is a natural Cruiserweight can make a really good career for themselves staying at the weight, rather than having to boil down to Light-Heavyweight or pump themselves up to Heavyweight, just to try and get the big fights and big purses...case in point; someone like Tony Bellew, who has done both to an extent!

Just glad to see he's OK. He didn't look great at the end of the fight having taken a lot of heavy punches. He seemed to spend much of the fight looking for one big right hand and Gassiev just stayed covered up and wore him down. The crowd were mad for it and those in attendance, including GGG, gave it some extra kudos, not that it seemed to need much hyping for the locals!

I also think cruiserweight is a great weight.

It's worth noting that many of the old greats like Louis, Dempsey and Marciano would probably not have competed at Heavyweight as it is in the current era.

In fact pitting Marciano who was around 185 against some of the modern 250+ monsters seems a bit ludicrous when you think about it. He would have had to go for the body as he wouldn't be able to reach their heads!
