That sounds hopeless, why aren't the club sending enforcers around? Our Saturday medal rounds rarely take more than 3.5hrs and they're usually less than that. People march on smartly out here!
Reminds me of a comp a few weeks ago when I found myself playing with a chap in his mid-30s who took so long on every shot - sizing up every putt from all points of the compass, and at distance, agonizing over club selection etc - that the shop pro who was playing behind our group got very angry indeed. I thought he was going to deck the bloke the second time he took him to task about it. Chap was a bit OCD I think as he didn't respond to being told off at all and just carried on as before. Very selfish because I and the other two guys in the group had no time at all to give our shots anything more than the most cursory consideration.
They did have one young lad out in a buggy, but what can he do? A lot of the members know who the slow groups are in comps, but the club does nothing about it.
If people are still turning out for the comps, what incentive do they have to sort it out?
Thankfully I get to play a fair amount of competitive golf through work, and we play mostly match play, which flows much better.
If Club comps were my only source of comps I’d go mad. In fact I’d probably give up altogether or move clubs.
Watching the PGA website live feed with Radio 5 live soon to follow is quite nice for free.
5 live yesterday chatting too much and made lots of mistakes, were they watching it?
Seems a course that you could not remember 2 weeks later and also seems a bit too easy

One of the main challenges for me is a few of the lads I've met at the club - and occasionally play Medals with - are all single handicappers (5-9).
I find I really need to discipline myself when I watch them absolutely demolish the ball and eat up 260+ yards off the tee.
If I try the same I genuinely have a 1 in 10 chance of returning similar numbers - however the remaining 9 in 10 means the ball will slice wildly right.
So the thing for me is I just have to accept a less powerful - but much more controlled swing - and settle for 200 yards or less; but at least I can near enough guarantee the ball remains in play.
My fairway shots have to be the same else I end up topping the ball and shuffling along a few feet with the same club.
The other thing playing with a 30 handicap, I do take a more realistic view and set myself a target of bogey or double bogeys. I can have 6B and 10 DB in a round and still have a realistic chance of a cut.
Aiming for Pars on every hole with my ability just mentally sets me up for failure - and frustration if I don't meet target. For some on here I do recognise this might be a kind of defeatist approach but in the world of Division 3, this works for me!

Pib, I've been playing golf for 25 years but have cut down a lot in recent years - maybe two or three rounds a year. When I played most often, it was on a short course which only had par 3's and par 4's so I never used my driver, but played to a handicap of 15-16 usually. Hence this meant I didn't play very well with it when I did play on a bigger course.I find I really need to discipline myself when I watch them absolutely demolish the ball and eat up 260+ yards off the tee.

Sticking then to a 5 wood and/or a 3 iron meant I was always a fair way behind my playing partners off the tee. I found it easier to play the course to my handicap by not thinking on a Par 4 that I had to score a 4. Much better to make sure you got a 5 at worst then every so often, I'd pop in a four or maybe even a 3. Golf is such a mental game that any little tweak you can make to your game that has a positive result in your head will be a bonus.
These days, I play off 28 and only play twice a year. Once in a charity golf day and once just before it to make sure I know which end of a club to hit with. Playing off 28, I obviously get two shots on ten holes and even these days, if I'm getting two shots on a par 4, I'll make sure I get a 6 at worst. I can usually contribute 35 Stableford points to the team, which I'm happy with.

Thats exactly the right attitude. It takes the pressure of,f if mentally you have adjusted the par for a particular hole to suit your handicap. I find I really need to discipline myself when I watch them absolutely demolish the ball and eat up 260+ yards off the tee.

I haven't played for 10 years now but I did have moment of clear thinking when I realised the easiest way to get your handicap down was to put better and kept a separate card for scoring my putts. If you can get round in better than 36 puts your well on the way.
That’s a good idea. Recording your puts gives more context to how good a round was. I’ll be doing this from now on.

I thought anchored putters were banned?
He’s not anchoring, or so he claims. There’s no visible gap because his hand is touching his shirt. He’s also such a yippy putter he’s carrying two putters! One long, one short for different length putts.
Tiger is rolling them in. 1 back through 13.
Absolutely brilliant from Woods at the moment. He’s just hit it to about 15ft on a 250yd par 3.
I hope he doesn’t push too hard up 17 and spray it right into the water. He HAS to birdie 17 at worst.
A woods/Koepka Play off would be fantastic.
