I’ve done my own research to narrow things down, in truth it’s probably more about the shafts than anything else. I’ve done the independent fitter thing before and given the range of brands found it difficult to draw any meaningful comparisons in a one hour session. Others may take a different view but I’ve decided to come at this with just two brands in mind and go from there. I’m really interested to know the views of PXG players as their marketing seems very hyped up and want to know if they can back it up.
Know several people that play them, and they love them.

I'm a Mizuno boy (MP20 MMC). I'm around 90mph with my 7 iron and currently have 130g x-stiff KBS $-Taper shafts. Love them!

Just put the finishing touches to a super golf trip next year!

Royal Cromer, Sheringham, Hunstanton and Brancaster (Royal West Norfolk).

All confirmed, just sorting accommodation.

A treat to myself for my 40th. Can’t wait!

I’ve read mixed reviews. I’m a links man at heart though!

I have my old set of Ping i25's floating around in the loft!

Ping stiff CFS shaft
1/2" long
Blue dot (1 degree upright I think)
Great grips (MCC Plus4)

4,5,6,7,8,9,W plus I have 3 Scor wedges with the same grips (50, 55, 60 degrees).

All owned from new! Fair condition (I play once a week so they've been well used although the grips were pretty recent).

Let me know if anyone is interested!

If you guys are planning a new set of sticks I'd get booked in ASAP, the lead times on club builds is horrendous!

Was fitted for new taylormades x4 weeks and the estimated delivery time is the end of September!
It does depend on the menufacturer. I had customer Yonex irons within 3 weeks.
I've just popped into the local decent AG, been quoted January delivery for a T200 3 iron - similar lead times for Ping and TM. I suspect he was being conservative to avoid disappointment, but still - wow.
I ordered my Mizuno ST-Z 5 wood on the 5th March and got it last week.

I shot a stty 86 for a net 79. Didn't lose a ball but no less than 6 double bogeys. Frustrating ones at that. Gah.

Playing again tomorrow morning in a stableford then I have a nice round on Monday at Littlestone which should be good.

  • How old are you?
  • How often do you play?
  • Are you retired?
  • If not, do you take annual leave to play a round?

39

Once a week, occasionally twice a week. I’d say I average around 65 rounds a year.

Nope!

No, not really.

It really is a stupid game, this. 11 over for the first 3 holes. Then three over for the back 9.

We had a match yesterday afternoon and I was paired with a guy playing off +1.

Went 2 up early on but he pegged me back and ended up 2 down on the 15th tee. Won the 15th and 17th to square it up and then lost my ball off the tee on 18. Gutted!!

Shot 77 so pretty happy with my golf, but playing golfers of that level you have zero room for mistakes. Some fantastic ball striking on display.

Just had some vouchers through from work for American Golf for my 10 years long service at work, so am thinking about putting an order in. I'm very taken with the T200 Utility Build Titleist have just released, only issue is nowhere round here has one to try, so am thinking about ordering blind.

Looking for a 3 iron to slot in between my 3 Hybrid and 4 iron, but am not 100% sure on shafts. I'd like to try graphite this time, but I'm not a huge fan of the HZRDUS models that come with them as standard, so was thinking of matching the shaft to what I have in my 3 Hybrid, an Aldila Rogue Max. Other option is to fit the same S400 steel shaft I have in the rest of my irons.

Thoughts?
Only thought is do you really need a 4 iron, 3 iron and a 3 hybrid in the bag together?

It does seem excessive, but I've dropped back down to 3 wedges to simplify things round the green and give myself more options up top. 3 Hybrid is good for about 240, 4 iron is 210 so looking for something in the middle. Currently got a 2 iron there which also goes around 240, so does overlap my hybrid in terms of distance, but the 2 iron is for off the tee, hybrid for the deck.

Must admit I've loved the 3 wedge set up this season. Went from 50/54/58 to the more classic 52/56 (my PW is 47) and don't think I've ever missed the extra wedge. I'm actually more comfortable opening up the 56 if I need it to stop quickly than I ever was with the 58.
Actually funny you say that. Since switching back to 52/54/58 last year when I had all my new Mizuno stuff, I hardly every use the 58. Literally only out of bunkers. Around the green as you say seem to be much happier opening up the 54 than the 58 if needed.

We watched KP (0.3) and James Taylor who is scratch and looked good. Michael Vaughn eagled the 18th as well yesterday.

Course looked lovely, and greens where rapid.
I've birdied 18 before, eagle putt lipped out mad

I'm not surprised - the lofts in the shorter irons are pretty jacked up!!

Your wedge is 3 degrees stronger than mine with a longer shaft....

Frustrating day for me yesterday.

Shot 2 over the card on the front 9 for 20 points.

7 pars and 2 bogies, had 6 birdie putts. Felt in control.

Shot 10 over for the last 8 holes. 2 pars on the back 9.

All seemed to stem from a duff chip on 11 that really pissed me off and the rest just seemed to unravel!

All in the head. Unbelievable!!
