This Anderson chap is useless. Can't believe he was clean bowled.

This Leach chap is pretty special. Those pitches down in Taunton really producing a quality English spin bowler.

Great to get up this morning and see a target of 301. Obviously disappointed for Jimmy. Another ton gone begging hehe

I've not seen the wickets yet, but I do like the way Leach bowls.

Wow. What a stunning parry by Jennings. Are we playing cricket or volleyball? laugh

Well Sri Lanka are making a decent go of this, we need to get Matthews soon. He really is the only one who can get them over the line.

Would like to see Root mix some pace in the attack, a few Stokes bouncers, or give Jimmy an over or two to see if he can make it reverse. We look a bit predictable.

Looks like SL might now be slight favourites to win this.

Think we will be ok here, England in the driving seat, Dickwella is dangerous, but after that they should fold up.

You called it! smile

Spinners must have felt pressure going out there this morning. If they hadn't got that early wicket, frustration could have easily set in. Credit to England and the bowlers in subcontinent conditions.

38 wickets fell to spinners during the match which is an all time record in test cricket. Seems quite bizarre that it was in a match won by England.

I wonder if the tactic of attacking spinners with sweeps and reverse sweeps will continue. Part of me thinks that it might lead to more wins in subcontinental conditions but the other part thinks that it might also result in some pretty spectacular implosions on the way.

Although you could argue that we normally have at least one of those per tour anyway...

It’s a good series win, will give the team some real confidence. We don’t have a settled line up and I like the competition for places. We are still a 40+ average batsman short. Ideally a 3 or at least a 2nd opener.

Personally I like the attack, we have been poor players of spin generally for a while, so to use our ODI strengths in tests seems as good an idea as any. What’s clear is probably only Bairstow and Root, could play conventionally against quality spin for any time period. [assuming Bairstow can come back as a bat only]

Jonny Bairstow will be wondering about things about now I guess......

Of course Sri Lanka are not the cream of the crop to play against but Foakes has put a good reason to be our wicket keeper from now on.

Thoughts?

Bairstow might be back in the side for the next test.

Curran has a side strain so may be rested and the conditions don't suit Anderson so, with the series already in the bag, they might try something different and have Olly Stone as the only pace bowler.

Maybe:

1. Burns
2. Jennings
3. Bairstow
4. Root
5. Buttler
6. Stokes
7. Foakes
8. Ali
9. Rashid
10. Leach
11. Stone

I think Foakes stays as wicky regardless. He is A natural and talented keeper

Bairstow needs to re invent himselft as a three.

Have loved watching those series... great to see England adaopt8ng a proactive/even aggressive batting style with the sweep/reverse sweep....those limited over skills being deployed in the test match arena.

Bairstow seemed to have discovered a flaw in his technique during the summer. Love watching him bat when he’s in the groove....just needs to find it again. I’d agree though, his record with the bat suggests he’s better without the gloves and we desperately need someone to bat at 3 though you wouldn’t say his style is an obvious fit.
