Got my first eagle today but still haven’t got a birdie!
Played by myself and it was really nice to take time over everything and having nothing else to think about. Most relaxed I’ve felt for ages. Also shot my best score of 83.
Nice one. Always nice to get a big bird. Played by myself and it was really nice to take time over everything and having nothing else to think about. Most relaxed I’ve felt for ages. Also shot my best score of 83.
I love playing golf on my own, with 6 or 7 clubs in a pencil bag. It’s one of life’s simple pleasures, especially when the course is empty.

Excellent effort.Played by myself and it was really nice to take time over everything and having nothing else to think about. Most relaxed I’ve felt for ages. Also shot my best score of 83.
Not had a proper one myself, but had a 4 on a par 4 and was 3 off the tee, so in my head its a eagle

Had a course planning with me and wrote loads of notes for tee aim points, bale out areas, green reads etc so it should be a really good investment long term for my home course.

Wondering about getting an inch chopped off the Gmax 425 driver as I've found I can hit the shorter shafted Gmax 5 wood further and more accurately than the driver. Can't seem to get out of the way of the driver somehow.

No par 5s on my course so eagle chances are slim to none!
Played in the Winter League yesterday, and had one of those days where everything just works - and I'm still not sure how, as I hadn't touched a club in 2 weeks and am in the middle of a house move and my mind is firmly elsewhere.
Anyway managed to equal my lowest ever score at Stone GC (70), broke my record for most birdies in a round (8) and now hold the scoring record for Stableford Points in the Winter League (46). Course was playing a little shorter with winter tees, so more like a Par 68 rather than it's usual 71, however the ice on the greens for the front 9 made putting a bit more of a lottery.
As you can imagine, my winter handicap has been slashed and next week I've got to play off 6.....

What loft is the driver at?Just some thoughts/suggestions on your driver problem.
Also, how far are you hitting your 5 wood which means you are longer than your driver?

What loft is the driver at?It's really something that benefits massively on trackman with a good fitter as spin numbers, launch angle etc. are guesswork otherwise. I'd say a lot of amateurs would likely benefit with more loft than they typically play with. Knocking a 5 wood (18 degrees?) past your driver is what's making me think that.
When I got back into the game and bought a TSi2 driver we set it to 11.5 when I was fitted. That seems almost unheard of yet it's what worked for me and my swing speed's in the 100-105mph range. In my previous ignorance I'd have assumed that sort of loft was reserved for high handicappers/slow swings.
Have since played about with it at the range and knocking it down to 10 degrees results in a much wilder dispersion in the same practice session. Certainly much more of a difference than 1.5 degrees of loft change might suggest.
I wouldn't want to be shortening shafts and the like on a hunch.

I'll have a chat with the pro who I gave the club to this morning and ask if he thinks it's worth twiddling with the loft etc. He didn't say anything contrary when I asked him about shortening the club. I've had lessons with him, he knows my swing and has my best interests at heart, I'm sure he would have said something if he thought it was a bad idea.
ETA I may well twiddle with the loft as well.

My goal for the year is to get a handicap - not a hugely difficult goal, but I will have to find people to play with!
Played 9 holes at the weekend and got my first ever birdie! Shotscope screenshot below - how is that for directness?!
Drive was absolutely flushed, complete with ball print right on the centre of the face, something I don't see very often! Didn't catch the sand wedge well at all but ended up about 3.5 feet away. The guys on the next hole cheered, which was a huge boost! Really chuffed.
Happy new year everyone, and good golfing to all

HNY and hope the sticks are kind to you this year, would love to see the pic but it's not showing up on my screen. Played 9 holes at the weekend and got my first ever birdie! Shotscope screenshot below - how is that for directness?!

Great stuff - still at Bar Hill?…

I decided against BH for a number of reasons and have just joined Girton instead. Now 14 months for the price of 12.
I’ve managed 9 holes there for the last 4 days and am already seeing the benefit of regular play.

Haven't played Bar Hill in a while - was going to but saw they have a load of winter restrictions currently, so I went and played at Kingsway in Melbourn. Had played there a couple of weeks ago and it was beautiful and the course was as normal, so thought I'd pop down there again - only to find myself teeing off mats! Not sure if I'm going to join anywhere this year or not, might wait until a bit later in the year and better weather to try out some different courses to their full potential

Nice. I like Melbourn - it’s short but well kept. I spent the sept-Christmas playing there and at the Trumpington par 3 and it’s been fantastic for my short game. Not sure if I'm going to join anywhere this year or not, might wait until a bit later in the year and better weather to try out some different courses to their full potential
Offer still stands if you fancy a round - I’ll play anywhere or you can join me at Girton. 9 holes as a members guest is £11 mon - Fri

Thanks as always for the very kind offer, I'll definitely take you up on it at some point this coming year. What made you choose Girton, may I ask? Offer still stands if you fancy a round - I’ll play anywhere or you can join me at Girton. 9 holes as a members guest is £11 mon - Fri

Quite a bit of deliberation and procrastination was involved. In the end it was three things :
1) the course is great / a lot of thinning out of the nasty rough and removal of a couple of bunkers and ditches seems to have made it a nicer round (for a hacker like me).
2) I realised that the booking system is quite important to me in terms of getting a game with others - when I spoke to people at BH and at Girton, it quickly became apparent that the system at Girton was set up to help you get a game with others but at BH, you are on your own.
3) the recent offer of extra months included made it financially a decent choice. My next 15 months of golf works out at 63ppm which I know I’ll get value out of.
(I was considering BH (as a member and as PlayMoreGolf), Girton, Meridian, or continuing to be a nomad).
Meridian looked ok, BH, I like the course but not the setup, so Girton edged it for me on the above.
