Ringo is insanely good, country lanes off lead just trots next to me, car approaches he stops and sits. Around town he stops at every road before I tell him to cross. Very fortunate, he loves being close to me so know he won't bolt.

Pics of your lab please?!
Ringo's a beaut! Very lucky (or more likely a better trainer than me) that he doesn't bugger off...

This is Ruby what feels like yesterday:

And now:

Adorable!

So cute!

What are Labs like for running? Most I see are fat and slow, but they were originally bred as retrievers so presumably decent sprinters, but any good at distance?

Love the dog pictures! both lovely looking dogs, they really are great running partners! My wife does all her runs with Ringo, she feels safe and he absolutely loves it!

Start training them now, Ringo is a rescue so didn't have him from a pup, but we started training him straight away, thankfully he responds well to training. Still put him on lead near main roads and other dogs for obvious reasons!

Running a bit later today didn't fancy the rain and wind this morning.

Ringo is great, 10km no problem, at the moment I would imagine he would handle 10 miles without fuss (he drinks from puddles), I just worry about his joints as he is 30kg.

Any tricks to train them to run next to you? I have a 14month Springer X and he happily walks next to me and is like my shadow at home. He loves running, so thought he would be an ideal running pal.

I have another dog that I thought about running with, but he is a stubborn little st and only walks where he wants to walk laugh

I've tried running with our lurcher/deerhound cross, but a comfortable pace for her (i.e. when she actually starts running is about 8 minute mile pace) and mine is 9 minute miles max and I prefer closer to 10 on anything above 5km runs ha ha!

Great looking dogs!!

I started with him on the lead next to me, constant praise when he is trotting along nice. Get somewhere safe to let them off and run when he runs next to you constant praise, when he goes off stop running call him over get him to sit and then back on lead and constant praise. I would adapt this to commands he is familiar with. Some distractions are just too much for them though no matter how much you train them.

Ringo will cross the road, go up a bank, go up on the path when I am still on a road and stop dead all on command. Its great fun and one year of training and you have loads of years of running ahead.

It takes months but the satisfaction is great! You must be consistent.

Cheers. We have quite a few fields across the road that are suitable for running and letting him off the lead. When I tried in the summer he was pretty good initially, occasional jumping and become over excited.

Just need it to dry out a little as they are so muddy at the moment.

A few of us started trail running a while back, while you could still meet up in groups and one of the guys sometimes bought his border collie. It used to run backwards and forwards trying to round us up like a flock of sheep!

Loving the dog photos - we have a few that come out mountain biking with us occasionally and it's great fun.

My sore foot is feeling much better so decided to up the pace on this morning's run and wound up with a 21:09 5k time which is a significant PB. That was without a warm-up (I know, I know) and into the wind for a while with a bit of elevation gain too so I think the 21-minute target is very reachable. I also did a 3:57 km as part of that which was uncomfortable but not horrendous so perhaps going sub-20 later in the year is possible. Still got a couple of kilos to shift too!

Cheers for the recommendation of the Adidas SL20s, probably all a placebo but they do feel faster than my On Cloudflows.

Good work on your PB. I think I could do with loosing maybe half a stone, I may drop the beer from 3 pints a week to 1 and cut out all biscuits! See how that goes! Pleased the sl20's are working out well, for the money they are a good punt!

Talking of shoes I just bought the reebok symmetros for £44 delivered.

https://www.reebok.co.uk/floatride-energy-symmetro...

I have been amazed at the reebok floatride 2, did some quick (for me) km's this morning and think the shoe performed really well. If you have to have one shoe or only want one shoe it really can do everything and at such a cheap price!

Hi all, I was wondering whether anyone could offer some advice...

I’ve been running since my mid-teens and am now 41. In August last year I began experiencing some pain on my inner shin. It was pretty mild at first, but over the course of a week and around 30 miles of running it got to the point where I was worried enough about it to stop running for a while. I ended up taking three weeks off, at that point the longest I’ve ever gone without running, and picked it back up in September. 12 miles into September and the pain had returned. I rang my doctor but they said if I suspected a fracture (which I do), then I’d have to go to A&E. I elected to have more time off and hope that it gets better. In the months since my mileage has been sporadic, though that has been part motivation, and part easing myself back in, but the positive has been no shin pain, until now! It’s returned and I’m obviously gutted.

So my question is, how do I get this sorted? Who do I go and see? Is it just a case of not loading my shin until it heals?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Go and see a physio (they're still open) and get a proper diagnosis as a first step. What you're doing at the moment (lengthy rest periods then picking up running again) is the worst approach to injuries!

If it's a fracture you need to know, if it isn't you need to know what's caused it and do whatever remedial strength work is needed, before progressively loading it by cross training then by gradually reintroducing running over a period of time to rebuild your tolerance to it.

Where are you based? If near Portsmouth I can get an xray done. I'd also check out tibialis posterior problems, compartment syndromes etc etc. Without examining it could be a number of things.

Thanks. I’m in the North West. I’ve used a physio before who solved a long term problem so I’ll give him a call.

Its obviously injury time! Felt a tweak in my left hamstring after a steep downhill, road flattened out and 2 minutes latter odd tweak, no sharp pain thankfully!

Took it very very easy on the remaining 3k home, hot bath and rest now for a few hours! Really hope this isn't serious!

I was in new shoes, hope that wasn't the reason!

You managed to get 3km done on the way back. It can't be TOO serious wink

Exactly my thoughts! Will rest up today and see how it is tomorrow, as I said previously I dont have your self control when it comes to injuries!
