Kell Brook v Jo Jo Dan (who's he) I think Kell needs a better promoter.
He is the IBF no1 contender http://www.boxingnews24.com/2014/12/jo-jo-dan-now-...

Reading that article makes it even funnier. http://www.boxingnews24.com/2014/12/jo-jo-dan-now-...
Kell is talking about Khan, Paq, Mayweather and this is what he gets.

Really wonder where Gavin will go from here. Not impossible Matchroom would offer him something but I'd be surprised...

Can't access that but guessing this is about Matchroom putting on a show in Birmingham? Yeah, could be something to that...equally could just be putting two and two together and making five. There's still a part of me that hopes Gavin can still make it to the top but unfortunately there just seem to be a few too many negatives; not a huge puncher, a bit one-dimensional, commitment has been questioned, didn't make the step up against Bundu and, to top it all, is competing in the most competitive division in world boxing. There's a chance...but it looks a pretty slim one.
Ye gods.
I joined my local boxing gym last night. Never done it before.
2 things:
- Whilst not painful, I am struggling to type this - I can barely grip my hands, and it's very frustrating
- Skipping for the first time, as part of the warm up, was probably the hardest, most exhausting thing, I have ever done
Was great fun though - will be sticking at it.

Good for you, keep it up. You need to keep you hands nice and relaxed, you shouldn't be tensing them so hard it hurts the day after you will loose all the movement, speed and flexibility in your arms by tensing your fist up tight, trust the wraps and the gloves.I joined my local boxing gym last night. FWIW I've been boxing and kick boxing on a off for over 20 years and I got caught clean on the chin last night by an 8 stone 16 year old kid in a light tap, technical spar, no mouth guard in, I can hardly open my mouth this morning.

A lot of respect goes to the team that are there to show complete novices like me the ropes, so to speak - they must have extreme patience (Gus at Aylesbury Boxing Club, especially - he was saddled with me last night, for his sins - top bloke).
But that fking skipping rope.... I looked like Bambi in a room full of racehorses.

as fred says, don't tense up.. you really shouldn't clench your fist until just before impact........it comes naturally after a while, I promise!!

haha!! good lad, stick with it and the rewards are plentiful. as with fred above I started at 19 and have participated on and off for 21 years now....I always come back to boxing no matter what. you'd be surprised how quickly you get fluid skipping. try to sort of shuffle from one foot to the other rather than 2 footed jumps....it flows much easier and before you know it you're flicking the rope outside the jump and pulling off doubles like it's the most natural thing on earth. it really is like riding a bike.

I didn't even think I was clenching my fists too much, but I guess I must have been - my hands are knackered. Most noticably then I needed to 'grip' my toddler's snotty nose with a tissue - I just couldn't do it! Then I struggled to squeeze shower gel out the bottle. I had given up by the time I had to sign a prescription form at the chemists before work - my signature will be X for a while. as fred says, don't tense up.. you really shouldn't clench your fist until just before impact........it comes naturally after a while, I promise!!
Skipping rope ordered from eBay, and looking forward to round 2 on Tuesday.

good stuff fella.....tip for skipping ropes.....get a thick leather heavy rope , not one of these string thin plastic affairs. you'll be surprised how much more shoulder strength you develop swinging the extra weight. once you get stronger you'll also be able to skip faster, which of course makes your shoulders and upper back work harder because the centrifugal force makes the rope even heavier effectively.Skipping rope ordered from eBay, and looking forward to round 2 on Tuesday.
also, you can goose your hands by holding the rope too tight ( if your hands hurt when you touch your thumbs to the pads on your index fingers you have done this!!)
I like to alternate between loose grip and having the handle between my first two fingers to keep it all nice and loose.

Kell Brook needs a warm up though, right?
Isn't that his first fight since the knife injury?
yeah, all the noise is either brandon rios or robert guerrero over here in sheffield....Isn't that his first fight since the knife injury?
rios looked amazing the other night BUT alvarado came to the party with no jab.none. it made it really easy for rios to walk him down, plant his head on his chest and let rip with hooks and uppercuts. alvarado was being too brave by standing there and taking it.
.....brook , on the other hand, would box rios off at distance before closing him down at a pace dictated by kell.......i could see brook stopping rios you know.
i think i'd like to see how rios/guerrero would pan out!! i see that as quite a close fight with robert having slightly more to offer in the skills department but less balls out heart than rios. i'd say guerrero by close ud and i reckon kell would probably beat him too but it would be a more tactical and close affair than if he fought rios.
for my money, khan would still best all three of them at this point.
Apparently, there are rumours of a possible fight between Brook and Juan Manuel Marquez later this year. I actually think that would be a very shrewd move for Brook. Marquez's stock is still high after beating Pacquiao in 2012, but is beatable (as Bradley showed) and would be knocking on 42 by the time they fought. Win that and negotiations with Khan move onto a more even footing, while fights with Pacquiao and Mayweather also start to become more realistic propositions...
