Morning all

amongst all the terrible news, bombs, politicians and other crap. This has sneaked up on me.

First ODI today versus the mighty Proteas.

Anyone going ?

Expecting a close series on both fronts, we have the batting, but think we lack a top of the line bowler, and definitely some guile in the spin section.

Jimmy A also a doubt for the Tests, with a groin tear..

Ha ha... far too squeaky at the end. Woods bowled a death over that only Jade Dernbach could have bettered.

Lovely stuff from England. But we are still a bowler short to challenge for silverware in this format.

one day the bats will only get 280 and the bowlers can't defend that... yet.

Still good win, and Morgan remains an underrated Skip.

Not a good start, just glad we won the series!
Overcast Morning at Lords and an 11 am Start.

Needed a more Boycottian approach to the first ten overs I think.

I wonder if SA will reverse the batting order to make a game of it for the crowd biggrin
Don't know, would be funny if they did. But clearly the ball is moving around, so they probably won't

Rashid needs his head examining. five down and not 30 on the scoreboard. 1st ball, what shall I do.....

100 up - still fighting

Still I reckon this will be very close, I mean South Africa will probably win, but only by a couple of runs.

Classic mockers. Wheels falling off now, nothing can go wrong from here.
Yep that was pretty awesome. He is an awesome player, that over the shoulder six is an amazing shot.

Taunton looking good. Some of these new kids look pretty hot. T Curran. Decent start.

Jason Roy needs to buy a lottery ticket after the game. Streaky!
To be fair, he couldn't buy a run in the 50's so he deserves a few breaks. When he does hit it....

Great game. Threw that away.
Well we had a couple of new players in, think Morgan should have come in earlier, but it was obvious they are just giving the new guys a chance, so you have to respect that.

Good game, but we should closed it out. Ah well. 1-1

This Malan kid is hopeless, no way he will make a ton on debut.

Pretty easy win in the end, Bowled well, and SA never got going, 5 overs gone less than 30 on the board.

Took wickets, caught well - outplayed them in every area.

ABV not looking the player he once was (still had some great shots though.

Long way to go chaps, very surprised to see Balance back in the side. One County century back in May against Northants, and a few halves since then should mean you are England's go to number three.

Cook always seems better in the second innings somehow.

Anyway - long way to go.

Never got Ballance. Limited technically ability, plays at 5 normally so we decide to play him at 3. He is turning into Shane Watson....walking LBW
He (Gary) has openly said he won't stop playing off the back foot deep in the crease. Maybe ok at county. But against quick and late movement he is indeed a walking wicket.

Rather have had any of Morgan, Hales or

Still scoreboard looks a lot better than it did at Lunch, Good boost for Root too in his first dig since being made captain.

Often the way with big overnight scores. Hard to re start and get the feet moving again.

Shame he didn't crack the double. But still a fantastic innings.

Settle for over 400

Decent day for England . Chipping away the wickets on a decent batting track.

Get out with a 100 run lead well be very handy. Need Broad to have a fiery spell at the tail on the morning.

Hope HR had a good day out !
