It doesn't seem like we a dedicated rugby world thread so rather than clog up the standard thread I thought a new one might be a good idea....

Felt sorry for the Fijians - thought that the aussie in the 1st half should have been shown the red, he was a very lucky boy.

Glad the French won - they won't be nailed on desperate to beat us. Quality drop by Lopez

The AB/SA game was brutal - better SA execution may have won them the game.

Two shocking decisions by Roman Poite today during the Russia-Samoa game

Two red card tackles, minutes apart

Two shoulders to the head/face, at full speed. On neither occasion did the ball carrier significantly alter their posture before taking the hit (unlike Watson in the Eng-Tonga game).Result? Two yellows.

I don't usually get worked up by this sort of thing, as I love seeing the physical stuff and I hate seeing a game ruined by cards. But both times Poite chickened out of making the correct decision with the help of the touch judges. Absolutely criminal.
I must admit that I had a little sympathy with the 1st yellow, the 2nd though was, imo, a straight red.

I got up late, and so watched it on catch-up.

I thoroughly enjoyed it. I kept expecting Fiji to stage a come-back, and, to be fair, they nearly did.

Great play by Uruguay. Their #9s a bit of quality.

The first half, with the sort of 'we'll score, then you can', was exciting. I expected the Uruguayans to flag towards the end.

Good game.
TBF if Fiji had a kicker worthy of the name....

Hodge banned for 3 matches. I bet the Fijians are happy about that....

Absolute joke

Are you saying that the tackle didn't merit a card?
I think he is saying that there is little justice for Fiji given Hodge got away with being penalised during the match and subsequently went on to directly contribute to the come-back and victory.
indeed I am. At that point Oz were on the rack, could they have won playing 50ish minutes with 14? Sadly, we'll never know - however given that this removed Fiji's best player at the same time as letting a massive contributor to their defeat stay on....

I'm getting increasingly frustrated with the Fantasy rugby. Only 17 hours left to confirm picks for round 2, and as yet only 5 out of 16 team selections announced!
I know what you mean - I'm sure that FL was a lot more manageable in previous comps (did we have one for 2015?)

England were ok but (in my not terribly professional opinion) quite average. The match was also not too bad but in all honesty I preferred the Italy/Canada match as entertainment.

Missed the Wales game, will be interesting to see how Scotland come out and play. They need a big score, but not sure they've got it in them.

Also got shafted with this round of the fantasy locking changes before releasing all team sheets. I had 3 saffers who didn't play frown
Yup! I had a couple that stuffed me like that as well. Having said that, the Saffas were one of the few teams who did release in time! hehe
Worse for me - holibobs with patchy WiFi, still rather be here though hehe

That scoreline massively flattered the French....

If other matches pan out more or less as expected, then they'll presumably still go through as group runners up, but the Welsh will be absolutely pissing themselves laughing at the thought of facing them in the Quarters!!!
The buggers always seem to lift themselves for us though frown

On a happier note I found the itv app and the hotel WiFi played nice. France were worse than us, the Canadians were shocking at points and there we two howlers from the Barratt boys

Many of these games are being played at times that just don’t allow us to watch them over here.

The highlights packages I’ve seen are a waste of space.

Does anyone know how to watch the game in full after the event (without having access to recording equipment)?
Won't that be on the ITV app as a catch-up?
