I see that the GRRC Breakfast Club, which is supposed to “celebrate our GRRC Members” is “open to GRRC Members and Fellows only”.

They really don’t get it, do they?
I just read that a few minutes ago and thought the same.
For clarity, I have nothing against Associate Members, but that means it is open to the 10,000 Members and the 13,000 Associates.
It makes me feel special.

Any current GRRC members out there who had all but made up their mind they were not going to renew but are now sitting on the fence?!

I'm in this camp. For me, the main appeal to joining the GRRC were the regional drives and the potential to partake in the couple of autosolos run each year (though I'm yet to pluck up the courage!).

Goodwood will run 10 regional drives next year and I figure I could perhaps attend 5 of these. They're 'free' so if I take the £335 membership cost and divide it per drive that's £67 per drive, which doesn't seem too unreasonable given the routes are pre-planned and it's dedicated time set aside to enjoy my car - this is definitely worth something!

Managing to get booked onto the drives I want to attend may be another matter...
Yep me too, still got till the end of the month to decide, smile

We (GRRC) get the opportunity to have breakfast in ‘that’ building with the name I can’t recall!
Edit: Stewart pavilion?

Anyway regardless I’m renewing, let’s see if there is any change.

My point was more that this is another example that shows there’s precious little benefit in paying for full GRRC membership when you can be a Fellow for a fraction of the cost and have many of the same entitlements.

Pit access at revival and grid walks? Just GRRC aren’t they?

Not a lot for the discrepancy in cost is it?

I am not a member and not a particular fan of LM and the way he does things.

But have been in these sort of clubs before. And they nearly always fail when they start pushing the price up and offering less, or more tiers.

People just get fed up handing over more money for pretty much the same thing.

I can see the benefits to people who love the events and other stuff, but to keep pushing up money seems to me trying tog et blood from a stone, I know a lot of people who are members are probably well off, and the begging bowl seems a thing.

but even so.

No one can say an overcrowded grid walk is a benefit and I wish they’d stop them as it just interrupts the flow of the events.

Yes, I want to renew, but I am fairly sure I shall not renew, but haven't 100% decided.
I invested a lot of time (as did a couple of others on here) to try and make a difference.
I think Alan will have spent quite a lot of time on the phone, I had a call with him to discuss the changes too.

I have renewed, it was a more difficult decision than it should have been, as I, and others have said, I think next year is a time for Goodwood to look at what separates the 2 sections of the club, so that the cost to go up to being a full member really does offer a step up in benefits, that don't come with a additional cost to the Member, and aren't available to the Fellowship.

Perhaps, something like a sponsor, 'GRRC in association with' which is no different to the way the main events are sponsored, could introduce some additional funds and offer a scalable benefit to full members ?
I'm in the 'Renewed but will give it one more year camp'. I will see how much I enjoy membership in 2024 before deciding if I remain a member in 2025.

I've not spoken to Alan on this particular subject but I have a long call with Josh, so I would hope the whole GRRC team have got the message. One wonders is it's been communicated to the duke?

I am one not renewing. As a family member, I've seen the subscription rate increase by 40% in 2 years (from £360 to £502) whilst one of the major benefits, Thursday FoS tickets, has been removed. The value for money was always marginal but there's no way I can make the maths work now, I can find better uses for my £0.5K.

Or to put it in other words, "Having carefully considered all the options, I am left with no choice ..."

Ian, are you going to drop back to be an associate (Fellow) or simply not renew?

Not related to membership, but one of the reasons for the grid walks is to "entertain the public" while the marshals and race officials get a break in the day. Often interesting seeing the other side of event delivery!

I was aware of the reasoning but something like a track parade must allow Marshalls to have a break?

Rich, no I'm not taking up Fellowship. I already have MM tickets, after that I shall give Goodwood a complete rest for the year. I'll consider Fellowship in 2025.

The problem with a track parade is that things are still moving and the track needs to be inspected for dropped things before the next race - with the grid walk 95% of the track is empty and nothing is going on in race control (hopefully!).

IIRC it was always possible to attend the test days with no need to book so it is a bit disingenuous to claim that this is a new benefit.
