Well said. The House thing isn't for everybody nor is Revival. I quite like the house competition but I've never taken part in it. Doesn't mean it shouldn't exist. Tolerance is important.

Not interested in any of the frippery and nonsense that goes along with it, and I agree that all the dressing up and house points stuff is nothing short of total st. I'm working class (me), went to an inner city comprehensive and the nearest I've come to that sort of culture was reading a Jennings book when I was ten. Mrs da Greek likes the dressing up because she gets a chance to wear a posh frock.

But yeah, it's just about impossible to see these cars running, let alone racing, in any other context for a pleb like me, so worth every penny IMHO. The whole exclusive club, oiks the other side of the wire attitude disgusts me. Which as Members is somewhat contradictory, I appreciate, though we always feel slightly like impostors who've infiltrated something we shouldn't have and someone's going to twig one day and turf us out on our ear. Which is also weird, given the eye-watering amount of money we pay for this privilege every year

It won't. Goodwood has massive appeal. A few grumbles on here won't make any difference at all.

I have now stopped going to the Revival after about 10 years as it was getting much too crowded and I didn't feel that there was sufficient variety. I still enjoy the FoS. The Members Meeting is my favourite event of the year at the moment.

We are pretty lucky to have these world-class events almost on our doorsteps. If Lord March is coining it as a result then so be it - it is a business, not a charity.

Your talking as if all live streaming has stopped.
There will still be live streaming of selected races and highlights.

So you want to watch it at home for free because you are bored and don’t like the walking, great argument.

Formula One won’t be free either from this year........

The live stream was a nice way for Goodwood to give a little back perhaps even encourage people to attend. As others have said for the price of the MM meeting you could attend many Historic meetings without all the elitism and House/fancy dress nonsense. There are people I know who go to this but nothing else and have very little interest in the cars and racing; it's the whole being on the "scene" thing. In turn these individuals are depriving real enthusiasts from attending?

Give me a Brands 750 Motor club or HSCC meeting and i'm more than happy and no you can't stream it but then again it's £12 a day in advance or £20 for the weekend. I count myself lucky we have the Masters series where the access doesn't require "privileges" and the ambiance is very friendly. Masters Brands Hatch end of May £30 for the whole weekend with great facilities and well priced food makes Goodwood look the pompous rip off fest it truly is.

Indeed, if you've got £180 knocking around you can buy a weekend ticket right now (Fellowship + ticket cost). It is a lot of money, but then that's the price of keeping the attendance numbers significantly lower than they'd otherwise be (limited to 25k, I think?) which is a key reason why the event is so special.

It's a win-win because as I've mentioned, as well as a restricted attendance limit it's also an event largely attended by paddock dwellers, so it really is almost embarrassingly quiet out around the circuit.

For the above reasons for me it's worth it as it's the best single event in the country, and I have limited days off to attend events (otherwise I could buy a Castle Combe season pass and still have change for a couple of Thruxton events for the same cost).

I think ppl are getting the MM and the Revival somewhat mixed up.

There is no dress code or fancy dress blah blah for the MM, AS EVERYONE WHO ATTENDED LAST YEAR CANT ATTEST DECKED HEAD TO SODDING TOE IN ARCTIC SURVIVAL BLOODY GEAR!!!

Or even the year before when it was "ok" weather until about 16:30 in the afternoon when it started to get a bit damn nippy with the wind chill factor pushing it.

Or the year before that when it was just meh.

Or the year before that (first yr) when it wonderfully sunny weather and everybody was swanning around with shirt sleeves rolled up, t-shirts/polo shirts and some were in shorts - esp any of us laughing at "the worlds largest tv screen" down the Lavant Straight.

The House point thing and the Great Hall thing can be ignored - as every member of my lot do and we all went to poncy silly schools, or gram school in case of mum and dad.

As for the Revival Paddock dress code...shirt, tie, jacket. Really? That is onerous??! Really?? Genuinely here chaps, seriously absolutely genuinely, some of you are saying that is onerous? No offence folks, but knock it off.

Since dad first rocked up at Goodwood alongside Moss, Ireland and the rest of the doddery old gits back back back in the day, to the first FoS, the first Revival, Ray Hanna n all, to the fancy Founder Members shindig thing last yr, I can honestly say not a single member of the family or associated friends has ever done fancy dress to Goodwood.

By and large, you can pretty much go anywhere at Goodwood in warm boots, trousers, shirt, jacket and hat. The vast majority of regulars to early and late season Goodwood events would probably consider you a bit daft and frankly asking for it from the weather Gods if you didnt!!
Certainly nobody watches Swifty sideways at St Marys without such apparel !

I certainly don't like the 'fancy dress' when it goes as far as a fake Elvis or Russian general, quite happy to make the effort with the family and go in a shirt / tie etc to blend in, I don't consider this to be an issue as I like the idea of going back to a rose tinted version of the past and escaping the modern world for a day or two, to those that choose to walk around in two year old F1 gear, that's your choice. I made the effort last year (as I have for all the previous MM's) and I've never been so cold !, looking forward to this year when hopefully it will be a little warmer with the date move

Not onerous, but a PITA . My wife was once refused paddock entry even though she had made a big effort - expensive blazer, silk scarf and panama hat - 'sorry madam, you are wearing trousers '. She was , very smart ones, and just like they wore in period . She politley told him to stop being so effing ridiculous and walked in anyway ...

If people want to dress up good for them - but as you can go the to The Royal Opera House in tracky bottoms if you want (and some do ) I find that Goodwood's mandatory code at the Revival (for paddock ) ridiculous and not even remotely related to the era they are pretending to recreate .

I adore the cars , circuit and racing ., can't wait for MM , admire Goodwod's meticulous attention to detail (programmes. catering . PA) greatly enjoy meeting and talking to drivers and other spectators and I may well sport my bottle green cords but please don't tell me what to wear - as I then revert to being a chippy Yorkshireman

It is a great excuse for both ladies and gentlemen to wear their smartest countryside attire, and when the weather can’t make up its mind, a wax jacket with tweed accessories wouldn’t go amiss, not forgetting an umbrella.

Please remember that it can get very chilly in the Spring, so we recommend bringing lots of layers, and thermals if the forecast is looking cold. Layers can be stored in our lockers available at the event.

Parking is on grass so suitable footwear is recommended, including wellingtons when wet.
