The Vulcan was absolutely stunning, everyone around was just standing transfixed by it.
I didn't know quite how huge it was untill today!
By modern standards, it isn't that big. It's length is about the same as a Boeing 737. However, it's the shape and noise that makes it impressive.
True, but if you stand under one (as at the RAF museum at Hendon) you realise how massive the delta seems - Swept back wings just don't impart the same sense of massiveness that the Vulcan's delta wing does.

I saw it at Farnborough last airshow - I GUESS it'll be at this year's again?

The sad thing is even though it has been restored it won't be around (flying) for too long as the structure has a finite life , make the most of these rare occasions.

Oh ye of little faith. PH'ers who, unlike RedexR, embody the "Spirit of Great Britain" (XH558's new title) should go here:
http://www.vulcantothesky.org/news/102/82/This-com... then look round the site, paying particular reference to the incredible amount of work that has been performed in the light of the October 2009 Haddon-Cave report on the Nimrod MR2 crash in Afghanistan in 2006. Watch the videos and see the "Vulcan Effect" and the inspiration given to the young people who see her. Of course all machines have a finite life, so does RedexR! Don't use phrases like "...it won't be around (flying) for too long" Some of us intend to see that it is.

I would also encourage any of you who enjoyed seeing the Vulcan to go to their website above and join their fan club. This helps support keeping it in operation and you get lots of info about what goes on to keep it flying.

I've seen it a few times since it started flying again, including a low pass over goodwood when I was playing golf there last year.
