A bit more vitriolic on the FB group - actually getting replies from GRRC admin there. Would hate to think what their email inbox looks like today.

Ha, this made me chuckle, I had forgotten about it until you reminded me. The structure and wording of that survey was utterly dire.
Choose one of the following which best describes your expectation
Option 1: I would like to pay more, yet receive less.
Option 2: I wish to be kicked in the nuts at least four times every Thursday
Option 3: I would like to stand bare-foot in boiling tar.

The results of the survey said our members prefered to pay more and receive less.

Just taken another look at the GRRC forum... really not going well over there.

I don't/won't do anything with Facebook, does anyone know what the general feeling is on that platform in either the GRRC Members or Associates 'pages'?

I suspect there is a heirarchy of numbers in that GRRC forum has few active participants, then larger numbers on PistonHeads, probably larger numbers still, on Facebook.
Very much the same sentiment that you are reading here!

Yep the survey was a joke.

I think we ended up with 1 and for the FOS 2 (Kicked four times was the four Thursday tickets that I have lost)

Even those who are pro goodwood (as they do things like taxis or camera clubs) aren’t being defensive just correcting accuracies or trying to move things on which says a lot as normally they’d be there in defence.

<clip> To be honest the farce with Fellows not being automatically being on the waiting list (I wasted years, my account shows membership since 2018, but I've been on the list for two months) has put me off bothering full stop. So many people on the FB page have been caught out by this...
I know this is going off at a tangent but are you saying that joining 'The fellowship' does not also provide you with a place on the waiting list? That seems odd. If that's what you mean, how do Fellows go about getting on the 'Membership' waiting list?

As I understand it, being a Fellow doesn't put you on the list.
If you are a Fellow, then you can ask to be put on the list.
I don't think this was obvious, so loads of Fellows were waiting for a place expecting there were automatically on the waiting list - but in fact hadn't started waiting. If you see what I mean.

From the Fellowship FAQs:

How do I join the GRRC as a Member in full?

After joining the GRRC Fellowship, you can join as a 'Member-in-Waiting'. When a space becomes available to become a full GRRC Member, we will be in touch with you. If you decide to become a full GRRC Member, the money paid for your time as a 'Member-in-Waiting' will be deducted from the Joining Fee accordingly. If you wish, you can decide to decline the invitation for Membership and remain on the GRRC Fellowship, but you will lose your place within the ‘Member-in-Waiting’ line.

It was news to me too (although I am already a member)

Was just another clusterf**k in Goodwood’s admin. It really should have been an opt out list but no Goodwood had to be different.

And now the Facebook group is being spammed by those who can’t see the problem or read the room.

I’ve got to say one of the downsides to membership was the Facebook group. It makes you realise how many idiots there are in the club (myself included).

As it happens, the creation of the FaceBook group and the GRRC apparently publishing things on there was a bit negative for me.
I don't think it is right for an organisation to effectively require a third-party application for members to receive/or exchange information.

ETA: Further to this, it isn't really about the loss of two tickets worth about £50 each. It is the content of that email which really treats loyal customers as idiots.

As someone mentioned up thread it is a bit of a Gerald Ratner moment - it really is like sending and email that says all my customers are mugs.
Like with Ratner, we already knew the situation, but having that rammed down your throat makes you push back.

Correct, you have to separately opt in to be on the waiting list, but this was not at all obvious, proved by the fact so many of us had absolutely no idea.

As mentioned I lost years, in fact I've been on the member in waiting list for the grand total of 32 days, despite putting hundreds of pounds into my Fellowship membership over the past 5 years.

I also still don't have my Saturday FoS refund, so my good will for Goodwood is currently at an all time low.

Agreed, I don’t use or want to use Facebook and shouldn’t have to to get club information.

The fact that Sarah has stopped posting on this thread and we haven’t even had dear old Ian Wegg telling us that actually this is a good thing for members suggest they know they’re in the wrong with this one. Suspect they will just brazen it out and replace those members who chose not to renew with more mugs.

You know those special tin cups with MM80 printed on them? This year they are going to do a series with our faces on.

Goodwood said:

The results of the survey following this year’s event clearly show that the opening day has now become too crowded, with consequences to traffic, catering and other facilities. Despite the new Pit Stop and other on-event enhancements, it is no longer delivering the kind of experience that we aim to create for our members. Where previously we were able to absorb complimentary member tickets into the overall attendance number, this is no longer the case.

Having carefully considered all the options, we are left with no choice but to remove complimentary Thursday tickets as part of the membership benefits
The more times I read this the more I'm shocked they actually signed this email off. It's straight out of an episode of The Thick of It.

They've literally written that they hear the issue is that the event is too crowded, so the only change 'they are left with no choice' with is to ensure every single one of those people at the overcrowded event is paying for their ticket.

It beggars belief.

I dumped my membership after about 10 years last year. Became a pointless exercise with zero benefits, limited smaller events for members.

I decided to join the drivers union, and just buy the tickets and hospitality to the events I want. It’s more car aligned and a lot more active. Can still go to the festival and I’m quids in..
