I am alone in thinking this was the worst entry ever at the FOS. There were far fewer cars than normal in the main paddock and some of the other features were lame to say the least...cars and guitars anyone? Clashing with the HSCC meeting at Brands was unfortunate but I believe we will see far better machinery at the Silverstone Classic and (Jedward aside) better periphery attractions.

For me we were lacking Can-Am cars, BRM V16's and some Drag Racing nostalgia. The dust around the rally stage, top end was unbelievable but I suppose good weather will always generate that kind of problem. I spoke to a couple of traders who were unimpressed about being pitched so far from the premium spots adjacent to the startline. IMO all the small traders should be pitched together, as they are paying high fees and need to make a return on their investment.

Hi Mark,and to answer your question no i don't think you are alone.
This year was about the 9th or 10th time that iv'e been and have to say that for me personally it wasn't half as good as other years.
No Pikes-Peak stuff,Hillclimb/sprint,Rally cars on the hill were very limited and a distinct lack of C D and E-types.
What a shame.
No GR Tornado either.

I know times are difficult but i just think they dropped the ball this year. The problem is that with sunny weather and more or less a sold out event, there is little reason for them to change anything for the future. On the Autosport TNF forum there are a number of comments about many spectators having little knowledge of anything outside of current F1 and in some cases just being there for a glimpse of Hamilton and Button. The problem will always be that knowledged enthusiasts will want to see genuine history and not necessarily contemporary stuff, but it is the latter that enables the event to take place at all. As our 2 posts show, we both missed different things, which just demonstrates the diversity that exists in the sport.

You have to remember that the attendance of the vehicles running up the hill is entirely voluntary and dependent on the owners availability and willing. Also goodwood have to be mindful of any overlap between the FOS and the revival. Although I appreciate they are 2 completely different kettles of fish, goodwood may not be willing or able to get all the important historics at the fos, preferring to book them solely for the revival. The owners of some of the rarer older historics may be more inclined to only bring them to the revival as well. Also I'm guessing that goodwood want to avoid too many of the same cars appearing in succesive years ( pikes peak specials and the like) making sure they keep it fresh and exciting for FOS returnees.

One other aspect that people might not know is that the woman who organised massive portions of the event (s) was laid off (13 years service too) after some 'consultants' were employed to help with the management of it... Just something I heard from a few of the staff on the day.

Also the Classic Le Mans is on this weekend, so the program for FOS would have considered that, meaning we don't get to see those lovely cars.

I think it was either '08 or '06 when the 'Classic' was on the same weekend, similar sort of turn then.
