I'd *like* to set a budget of about £70 for a decent saddle. My current one never hurts but it's ugly and I *think* it's a fraction wide across my pelvis as I have been getting a groin strain.

Any suggestions? Oh, and ideally I'd like it to go with a bike that's very very green! biggrin

the Pros all swear by Fizik Aliantes but they are close to £200. you can pick up the arione for less than £100 or the antares around £125. http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/BrandCategory.a...
what shorts are you wearing?

A variety of bibs smile apparently the Fizik's are for different body types and I'm the middle one.

My current one isn't particularly uncomfortable but I think it's not quite the right shape.

a good coating of chamois cream might help in the short term. you could also speak to a Brooks stockist and see what they say?

I don't think this is a cream thing, I think it's a muscle or tendon grumbling about being worked in the wrong position...

My undercarriage was practically destroyed by a Brooks so I replaced it with a Selle Italia C2 Gel Flow which I can sit on quite happily for miles!
I heard good things about the Charge Spoon from a lot of people, but have never tried it myself.

Cheers,
Tom

Exactly how green is your bike? If it's a Bianchi then check out the range here:

http://store.bianchi.com/en/catalogue/productResul...

There were some bargains last time I looked. As above I'm not sure if you're a snake, chameleon or bull but may be worth doing the toe-touch test beforehand (if looking at a Fizik that is).

whilst not strictly a road saddle, I run one of these which I find comfy enough and the cromo version on my MTB

Never got on with the Fizik Arione, much prefer Specialized Toupe or Alias. Saddle choice is very personal; one man's meat is another man's very sore meat...

I've had a couple of Fizik Arione Tris which have been very comfy, but either Trek/Bontrager dealers or Spesh dealers do a measuring/fitting service - you plonk your behind on a gizmo that measures the width of your sit bones and they then provide a saddle of the appropriate size and shape.

Brooks Swift/Swallow both of which are very cheap considering they will probably outlast you...

I have a Charge Knife, it's basically a cut down version of the Spoon & it's pretty good. I'm going to try the wifes Charge Spoon next time i'm out for comparison.

Specialized Toupe, non-gel version.

I have them in 130mm and 143mm, both great.

Feels like sitting on a very narrow bench. In a good way.

Specialized Romin for me.

Most other folk I know that have tried them rave about them too. I'm currently going through the process of replacing the saddles on all my bikes with them. I've only used the non-gel version, but it seems that nowhere can get that in white and 143mm, so the place I placed the order at have given me a free 'upgrade' to the comp gel version. I'm interested to see how it compares.
