Now I have fixed lights and a dynamo hub I wouldn't go back to battery lights for commuting.
Bloody horrible this morning. Drizzling light enough that it was hardly noticeable when standing still, but enough to get a good soaking cycling. Started to get an ice cream headache after about 5 minutes and had to stop and put my woolly hat on!

Sounds terrible. I hope you get back to freezing rain in the dark in Blighty soon.
No chance, especially if I have to quarantine in a hotel for 2 weeks! I have a place in Madeira specifically so I can avoid UK winters. There is still nothing to beat an English summer, so I will be back... eventually. It is pretty cool being able to ride trails from the very top of the island back down to my house in town and close to the sea with minimal use of roads. Madeira really is cycling nirvana. The road riding is also pretty spectacular but you need the right gearing and strong legs as some of the gradients are crazy,

Can't beat riding into the sunrise. Luckily I still have a job and I've carried on as normal through the winter in all weathers. 6000 miles last year and a fair proportion of that was commuting to work. With multilayer clothing on it's no problem, infact I've been a bit too warm on a couple of occasions.
It's been a bit wet lately!

Haven’t worked in the office since 18th March, up until then I rode in every day and had my son on the back to drop him at nursery (where I work) 2 days a week.
Now, because Covid means he can’t go to nursery AND pre-school - just one or the other, he goes to nursery 4 days a week and each day have to drive to ‘work’, drop him, return home to WFH, then do the reverse at the end of the day...
To compensate I’m in the turbo at lunchtime a lot...

Pissing it down this morning, had to swerve round a mini that hadn't seen me and pulled out of a side road and half way across the cycle path, not had that happen in a while.
Got to work in full goretex and was stripping off my shoe covers when someone else pulled in to the bike shed in jeans and a normal a jacket

Had a great commute to work yesterday. Dropped off at approx 1,800m and descend down to 300m through the clouds and the laurel forests to my office above the azure blue Atlantic in Funchal, Madeira. Same again on Friday (hopefully), but tomorrow it will be the road bike...

People in Holland are tough. It’s just rain! Although spending the day in wet jeans sucks. Got to work in full goretex and was stripping off my shoe covers when someone else pulled in to the bike shed in jeans and a normal a jacket
I’ve not been to the office for something like 10 months now. I assume it’s still there.

Shamed into putting a few miles on today. Sun came out and 12C so no excuse. Plus I just bought a pair of summer shoes for the coming warm weather.
25mi into the West End and back, just mooching about looking at how quiet it is. Vans plenty impatient though. Not as out of shape as I'd feared, but I was riding without the bag.

I hate drizzle!
Especially when there's 3 times as much of it as there should be because I got to work and realised I'd left my laptop at home.
My sincere commiserations. Good work on the mileage though.Especially when there's 3 times as much of it as there should be because I got to work and realised I'd left my laptop at home.
I think I probably need a new bottom bracket, which is annoying.
Cycled into my new place of work today for the first time since starting on the 4th Jan.
16.2 miles each way google tells me, quite the distance but I reckon I can get it down to an hour each way once I'm fit again which I'll be happy with. Managed to dodge the rain too which was nice, not a bad day for it in London.

With my commuter off the road with a knackered BB, which I can't bring myself to change since the garage has no heating, I've done 3 days this week on my hardtail.
There aren't many options for off-road routes, but I've been trying to use some of them. It's rather fun smashing along the farmer tracks that connect the more remote fields to the real roads. I've met quite a few dogs out for their morning walks too, which is nice.
Cold on the fingers though. Which is not related to the bike choice!

Local residential roads have been hard packed show for the last week, which is still fairly grippy. Today it's warmed up a bit and is drizzling, which seems to have washed away the crunchy grippy bits and left the sheet ice underneath.
Lost the front end going in a straight line at very low speed, went to just step off the bike and let it drop from under me but it turned out it was still sheet ice under my boot too so down I went. First time I've properly fallen on a bike in years. Struggled to pick the bike up again without falling over and ended up pushing it couple of hundred yards to get a safe place to get back on! Broke my bell but no other damage, and landing on ice rather than tarmac means I didn't even scuff my clothes.

I used to cycle to work often. However I’m working from home more than usual which means carrying more stuff than I’d like to. However, New Year (ish), new frame of mind, so today was the first day on the bike.
It’s not far, only around six miles, but I tend to extend that in the summer. My only issue is I live on top of a hill, and until I get fit again, the cycle home, in the rain, is far from pleasant!
There’s no way around it, I have to go up the hill!
