this is about as English as I can muster, 1976 Bickerton folder, recently restored by moi, with a Sturmey 3 speed controlled by jap parts a'la Shimano Nexus.

Is that an old gate hinge in the middle?

possibly, it was designed by some clever chappy called Harry Bickerton who worked for DeHavilland, due to his ban from driving he came up with this bike as an addendum to his now public transport usage. It folds up basically to the size of the back wheel give or take a few inches.

Not very British at all:

MTB: Fat Chance Yo Eddy (USA) with Shimano (Japan) but Pace RC30s and Hope rear hub.
Road: Cannondale R600 (USA) with Shimano (JP).

roughly what percentage of your total biking be considered British?

As an example I have a few British components on my bike (Hope headset, skewers and stem, Charge Spoon Saddle and Ragley handlebar grips)
Are Ragley, and probably Charge, really British? Brant's other brands seem to ship stuff in from factories overseas and rebrand it. If it is design, then quite a few brands could be classed as British.

I'm still going with the rule that it's British if it's manufactured here.

British:

British:

Not British:

In reality, the only thing that's British from the above is the Reynolds tubed frames on the two Raleighs, the Condor branding, even though the frame is made in Italy from Dedacciai tubing and the Brooks saddle.
