Which Winter Road Bike Tyres?

"I have lost minutes on my commute"
Both of these statements are utter fiction To actually think you're suggesting gatorskins have more grip than 4000s is hilarious.

LOL - how dare this chap have an opinion, based on his personal experience!"I have lost minutes on my commute"

I've ridden GP4000s a year round for as long as I can remember - took the skinny versions to the Alps in April - the best tyre I've ever ridden.

I bought some Gators after suffering about 10 punctures on my GP4000s. Then managed to have 2 last weekend on the same wheel. The joy was immense.
The GP4000s had no grip in the wet and commuting on them was just plain dangerous. The gators are a much slower tyre, i have lost minutes on my commute but at least i know i can stop when i need too. The plan* is to use these over the winter and then switch back to summer tires which should give me more speed in the spring/summer.
700*25s
No grip on 4000s, but you like Skaters? I can't say I've lost minutes on my commute purely down to the rolling resistance of any tyre? - Not sure how this is a plan TBH, to ride fast i need to ride fast so could be a flawed plan.
I used to switch from GP4000s to Gatorskins in the winter, both 700x23, and found the Gatorskins had much less grip, felt very wooden at the same pressure as the 4000s, but they did have excellent puncture resistance.
I've just swapped to a pair of Michelin Pro4 Endurance v2s in 700x28 (on a pair of the new wider Mavic Ksyrium Elites with 17mm internal width), and have to say I'm really impressed. They have plenty of grip despite being slick, and felt very lively even at 75psi. It's too early to say how robust they'll be, but others seem to have had good experiences.

This has been a massively helpful thread.
I ordered some 4 seasons 700 - 23c for my bike. Someone at work suggested I get 25's but I really didn't want fat tyres. I hope I have done the right thing.
Why not run larger tyres, clearance issues? Personally I find 28's are the best thing in winter with less pressure. 4 seasons do ok, roll well and last a decent amount of time.I ordered some 4 seasons 700 - 23c for my bike.
