One thing I was going to ask on here. Sometimes when going up a small incline I notice my speed drops right off. My cadence / gear is such that I'd expect to be doing 12-14 mph but Zwift says 5 mph. Where am I going wrong? I use a Kickr.
Ignore the speed you think you should be doing, Zwift speed is all based on w/kg. So if your trainer is only providing enough resistance that you can do 200w and you're doing the steep section up to the radio tower you'll be doing walking pace, whatever your wheel speed. You can turn up "trainer difficulty" in settings to combat this. However don't whack it up too far or you'll run out of legs/gears!

I have switched over to zwift from trainerroad and haven’t looked back.
Jumping into a race or on to a fast group ride for me is much more interesting than following a trainerroad workout.
Racing is great fun even if there are people who cheat. It’s a always a great workout. Maybe we should start a PH team.

Yep.... Tacx trainer is pretty substantial though so standing up isn't too much of a problem for a while...
One stupid issue I find with Zwift, that is when you are using ERG mode.
ERG mode allows the software to control the resistance on the trainer, so that whatever Cadance/gear you are in you are outputting a certain Power. Great for interval training. Racks the resistance up every now and then without you having to touch anything. However if you reduce your cadence, it obviously starts adding resistance to keep same power output. As you get really slow, the Trainer obviously runs out of resistance it can apply at those slow revs, and the software pops out of ERG mode.
So you've got to keep continually spinning through the session... no rests at all. Might be ok for pro's but for a fat lad not good.
I've stopped using ERG mode with Zwift now for this reason. Works fine in TR.One stupid issue I find with Zwift, that is when you are using ERG mode.

Alternatively, if you want to stop, pause the workout. MobileLink, or hit the up arrow then click pause.
Then start pedalling again and hit the resume button to get going.
Only difference with TR is it has an autopause/pedal to resume option.
Guess I'm quite shocked how much I do use Zwift. 1) Turbo is definitely a good way to get faster. 2) I also have TrainerRoad (currently). Workout/plan execution (and powermatch) are far better in TR, but the social/game aspect keeps bringing me back to zwift.
I found I did nearly 800 virtual miles on Zwift last year, so its definitely motivated me however, I do know of people who only use Zwift and hardly ever ride on the road.
It puts the fun into Turbo training so if it can do that, it achieves its goal. Its very motivating whether you're taking part in a group training session or a simulated race.
I've no doubt that there are people 'weight doping' but theyre only cheating themselves!

I quite fancy getting this now I have a spare bike to use on it.
What's a reasonable set up for occasional use that wouldn't break the bank?
If you havent got a smart trainer, you'll need a Ant+ stick and a USB Cable extender, plus a cadence and speed sensor (the likes available with a Garmin for instance) combined with a laptop or desktop to make it work. What's a reasonable set up for occasional use that wouldn't break the bank?
