Purudential 100 ride times
Discussion
Collecting my pack on my way home from work this evening, work in London Bridge and live in Essex so the journey via Excel isn't too bad for me, still a bit of a ballache though! Had the same thing for the London Marathon last year. Hoping there might at least be some shiny bikes to look at there to make it worth the trip!
Weather for the weekend looks ok to me, I can't see any rain forecast?
My start times:
Start Area: Black
Wave: C
Wave Load opening time: 06:04
Wave Load closing time: 06:44
Start Time: 07:32
Slightly nervous at the moment, I did a 70 mile ride last weekend around Essex which is the longest ride I've ever done. Went fine and I felt I had more in me to keep going. Had my bike serviced this week so hoping chances of mechanical failures etc. are fairly low!
Hoping not having to faff around navigating etc. will help my average mph which will be completely at the other end of the scale to some of the above riders! Hoping to get round somewhere between 7-8 hours.
From anyone who's done it before, how busy do the food/drink places get? I plan on stuffing my pockets with shortbread and fruit/nut mix before setting off so should be fairly self-sufficient for most of the ride. Based on my ride from the weekend I'm guessing I'll need to piss at least 3 times and stop for food/drink min once probably twice, hoping to do that all as quickly as possible to keep stoppages down to a minimum.

You won't need to, it's well sign posted and there are so many other cyclists it is VERY obvious! I worried I wouldn't be able to find my way from the official car park to the Olympic Park, but even at 5 am there are so many bikes going one way you can't go wrong. mackay45 said:

Sounds like the right way to approach it, stop and take pics, get chatting to people, it's a very good vibe. I loved having Joe Public cheering us on, it's a great feeling.mackay45 said:

I did it the first two years, Hampton Court just looked impossible to me so I didn't venture in. Newlands was busy, it felt like I lost hours of time there queuing with everyone else. They made us walk in from the road and the stalls etc were quite a long way in. But to flip it around, if you are out of drink and food it is worth stopping to get something.mackay45 said:

To be avoided if you're wanting a good time, you can lose loads in them.. last year I rode as part of a team and one of the team demanded to go in to every one!!There do seem to be quite a few this year I think more than last, from what I can see there's something at; 10, 16, 18, 26, 38, 47, 62, 68, 75, 81, 84 and 89 miles, shame they've got so many in the 1st 26 miles when I imagine very few people will need them and then comparatively few in teh next 36 when I imigine there'd be the most demand.

Thanks both, it's not so much I want a good time but more that I know I'm slow already, so can't afford to spend too long off the bike!
I was in a similar boat as you for the Velothon, where they have less stops, last year as I'd been ill leading up to it, so as opposed to losing time waiting for the water queues I kept riding until I saw a shop/petrol station or even someone at the side of the road with a hose and asked them to fill up my bidons. Not sure if it really made that much difference but to me it mentally worked as i was saving time so didn't have to push my body too hard!
