It looks like the 15th of May remains the predicted launch day for the Karoo 3: https://www.cyclistshub.com/hammerhead-karoo-3-lea...
I should probably update my experiences with the Wahoo Roam.
I’ve done all my route planning on https://cycle.travel/map - a brilliant planning device, imho, & the work of one fella
Planned my solo LEJoG back in 2021 (19 days) and it worked beautifully.
Done a fair number of other rides, including a couple of multi day ones.
I save the .thx files to Dropbox (neatly in folders), then transfer them to the iPhone Elemnt app on the phone.
I’d say that always feels one more step than it needs to be, but it has worked reliably for me.
The Roam also works very well with the Garmin Varia 515 radar light I got, which has proven to be an amazing safety device too (perhaps less towns and cities).
The Roam battery easily lasts 10+ hours, which was pretty important to me (a pal who had Garmin for a few years always grumbled about poor battery life, lucky to get 5-6hrs back then - he moved to Wahoo and got the b&w version of the Roam.
If I was buying today, I have no idea what I would get, but the Roam has worked very well for me over many rides. I do trust the ‘dcrainmaker’ reviews a lot….maybe look there if any of you are hunting…

How do people find the battery life with the Hammerhead?
Just got back from a week cycling in Spain and the hammerhead users were always commenting on poor battery life?
I'm still very much a fan of the Wahoo Roam. Had a V1 from Later 2019, had it swapped FOC for a V2 last year. Both cracking devices.
Beyond simple to use and get routes onto, staggering battery life - managed a 13hr ride, with navigation, and still had near 20% battery life, and separately 30% battery life left after riding the Mallorca 312, and great customer service.

I thought I'd take a look at this but I found a slight issue. Our house isn't marked on this map so I don't know what base mapping system he is using and what else might be missing. Oh and just for clarity, our house has been on maps since the late 1880s S6PNJ said:

Doesn't show my favourite bridleways.
It is good for designated cycle routes and contours.

I'm looking for a reliable cycle computer, i.e. speedo, mileometer, to use on a turbo trainer.
So not a GPS!
I've now got three dead ebay bargain models, one reads zero all the time, one is blank, the other reads 99mph as soon as I turn a wheel.
Any suggestions?
I've got a Cateye unit which has been on my mountain bike (outdoor, not TT) for about 15 years. Uses a magnet on the wheel and occasionally needs a new battery put in it. Otherwise it just works. Cost me less than £20.So not a GPS!

Ideal, if either you want to flog it, or I can borrow a time machine to nip back and buy one....;-)

Don’t think you need a time machine, they are still available…;-)

Cheers, I've ordered a Velo 7, I'll blame you if the 2024 model is not as good as the old ones....https://www.tredz.co.uk/bike-computers?brand=catey...

Looks simple and well made.
The only problem is, the sensor wire is only long enough to use it on the front wheel.
DOH!
Finally, Hammerhead has launched the Karoo 3. It looks promising:

Apart from receiving data from the crank sensor, isn't this just a bit like buying another phone?https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/hammerhead-launch...
What do you think?
What do people actually want from this?

The only fault with the K2, for me, is the constant over reading elevation change. Recent U.S group ride my K2 measured 400m (1,300ft.) of elevation change, where others with Garmin showed <800 feet…. That’s a big difference over 40 miles.
I use Komoot out and about, I think it sometimes understates changes in elevation.
classic example, 'minimum elevation 40m' when I'd say the beach was at sea level.
GPS in a phone is often pretty vague on the third dimension.
Some of the apps seem to only work in 10m elevation increments, so you can lose a lot of 10m chunks on an undulating ride.
Conversely, I've used Komoot paddleboarding on the river and it's reported an excessive amount of ascent and descent. Maybe the effect of poor signal under the trees, Phone doesn't have the best GPS antenna in the world etc etc.
It does what I want well enough IMHO.
