I have just bought an XTR gearcable too. Is it best to cut it with snips or would a fine toothed hacksaw be best?

Good quality cable cutters (like the Park tool highlighted above) will do it better than a hacksaw. As it says on the website, you may want to use a file to take off any burrs.

Finally got round to fitting and testing the XTR cable set this weekend and have to say it's worth every penny! The cables run so much more smoothly and I can now swaps gears instantly (before there was sometimes a slight delay between dropping down and it actually changing). I'd never realised just how much friction was in my old cables until I fitted these babies smile

I also purchased the Shimano cutters which are also excellent (and a fiver cheaper than the Park ones wink)
