Pic following the first (mostly!) successful test-ride of my 70s resto-mod parts-bin special build. I've ended up upgrading my 'nice' bike (a pretty modest 2009 Allez) to the point that I had a full 10-spd 105 groupset and a recent set of Fulcrum Racing 3 wheels. The sensible thing would have been to sell the groupset and keep the wheels as spare/winter wheels. What I actually ended up doing was let myself be tempted by a cheap, recently powdercoated Italian Viner frameset, then buy a load of bits to build it up into a purist's nightmare (yes, I had to jack the rear stays apart to fit the rear wheel) ![biggrin](/inc/images/biggrin.gif)

Brief spec:
70s Viner steel frameset
Fulcrum Racing 3 wheelset
c.2009 Shimano 105 10-spd groupset
32mm Panaracer Gravel King SS
Deda finishing components
Specialized Rival saddle to match my other bike
Nicely done, but for the tyre label / valve placement![biggrin](/inc/images/biggrin.gif)

Apologies for double posting this, as it’s already in retro mtbs, but I thought people might be interested in my 1996 Muddy Fox Intereactive. A single shock actuated. Y both ends via a linkage system designed by Dave Smart, the supposedly only ever made ten of them. I know where three of the. Are - this one included. It took me several years to acquire and some rubbish negotiation ![laugh](/inc/images/laugh.gif)
I bought it earlier this year and finally got home to meet it last week. Pictured here with a set of Spinergy for maximum retro goodness!

Does the Muddy Fox have variable pivot locations/fulcrums for fore/aft adjustment, or is the leverage ratio fixed to a certain value between front and rear? Is it a mega heavy lb-age spring? I can imagine that wee shock having a tough life. Looks really cool though. Would be nice to learn more about the geo and kinematics.

What's the red bit in the middle made from? Looks like either composite or aluminium?![laugh](/inc/images/laugh.gif)

My fleet
Orange Alpine 160 - Bought S/H last Jan, it's been great. Use it for bike park days, and raced it in the Welsh Enduro Series this year. Tough, reliable and fun.
Nukeproof Scout 290 - Bought as a frame only, as I crashed my On One Big Dog into a tree and bent the downtube. Transferred all the bits over, and it's a really great hardtail. Probably the bike I turn to if I want a fun blast.
Giant STP 1 Dirt Jump Bike - Found it on FB Marketplace for £150 after been invited to the Asylum skate park and realising I can't ride a BMX anymore. It had been left outside and the chain was rusty. Got it for £100, new chain, a rear Clarks brake added from Halford and put a DMR singlespeed conversion on. It's a bit rattly, but enjoying learning the local pump tracks and refining my dubious skills.
Boardman ADV 8.8 - Picked this up weekend just gone on FB Marketplace for a good price. Aiming to do my 4 mile commute on it, and look to do some mixed terrain longer miles to improve my endurance fitness. Just sold my Triban 100 and the wifes non used Carrera to help pay for it, and it's a big improvement! I had a Boardman Team full suss MTB, and it served me well, included doing Snowdon and Helvellyn.
Pretty pleased with them all now :-)

That is nice. Back when Muddy Fox built proper bikes.![laugh](/inc/images/laugh.gif)

I've just ordered myself one of these for my new commute of a couple of miles, as driving that would be ridiulous.
My riding history is one of DJs and DH, and more recently I had a Stanton Slackline (sad to see they went into administration last week) for some trail riding.
This should do me well for my commute though, and I do like the simplicity of a steel single speed
