New bike going back to the shop…

That's an interesting take on the bio-pace concept.

Hopefully it didn't result in a knee - bar meeting?
Looks like more of a Shimano problem than a Giant problem, though.
It happened just as I was pulling away at an intersection and didn’t cause any probs, just felt weird - one of those moments when your brain knows something’s wrong but can’t quite figure out what it is!

As for the kit, will let the bike shop sort that - have never had or even seen this prob before.

Be interesting to find out what's failed there. Surely the non-drive side can't have rounded itself and so I can only assume it's a manufacturing defect in the drive side between the axle and arm...

Yep, just gotta get to the bike shop…

Anyway, from this morning - PBJnr2 swims at 0500 near the local trail, so thought I get a loop in early - but just way too many webs and spiders for me this morning. I can usually deal with a few but the warm weather means it’s better to be the second person through…

St Andrew’s Cross orb spider across the trail just where I took the photo above…

They’re not poisonous or very big - that one is about 6cm across - but the webs are right across the trail and very sticky!

Stupid thing to say (because it's a Shimano component that appears to have failed) but seeing this has me rethinking buying a Giant Revolt. Completely illogical train of thought, but hey? My latest "Ooh, that could be the bike for me" was when a Lauf Siegla crossed my radar via a review from one of the cycling websites. I'm busy now, devouring every review I can find and repeatedly going to Lauf's own site to click checkout to find the price (in $ US) including taxes. For a lower spec bike it appears to be around the £2,500 mark, although I assume the price fluctuates with the exchange rate. Gnaaaar! irked This "buying a new bike" lark should be a lot simpler than I'm making it.

Does anyone on here own a Lauf, or have any first-hand experience of them?

There's no saying it's definitely a crank failure, could be a simple case of someone having forgotten to nip up the non-drive side crank arm bolts after setting the pre-load...

I think GRX is constructed differently to Ultegra/DA, and you can see bolts in the picture, so I would assume the non-drive side has somehow slipped round. I'm very much avoiding Shimano in future, I've had two Ultegra failures so I feel other companies can have the benefit of my expenditure (!)

It's another reason I like Mason, you can choose SRAM/Shimano/Campag on every frame I think. There's a Campag double with a 48-30 chainset (I think that's the sizes) which really appeals to my "if I ever attempt the Fred again" personality...

Guess I'm not going for a ride today after all, strap ripped off my helmet when I put it on! At least I didn't discover it by losing the helmet during a crash.

PSA to check your helmets for wear and tear, I hadn't noticed any damage but hadn't inspected it closely in a long time either.

Off on a long-ish ride for the first time in ages. I spent part of the ride chasing Wandrer.earth points in random cul-de-sacs, and this pair of Old Grannies was at the end of one such street...

When will it dry out? Not any time soon .... At least it didn't actually rain during today's ride, even if we rode through 8-10 floods of equal proportions to these two ....

I can imagine we're all a bit fatigued of the flooded February ride pictures .... But the last 4 Sundays, each time with a clean bike, then absolutely covered in ste 4hrs later.

3kms of road covered in mud the local farmer thought was fine to leave as it was.

Standard state of winter bike by lunchtime on a Sunday currently.

Saturdays on the MTB aren't much better, but haven't even bothered with longer gravel rides given the state of the trails.

Have been eyeing mudguards for it and the MTB as the rain seems like it'll never end!!

Gravel bike up and running again…

Cranks fixed - apparently loose bolts on non-drive crank arm likely cause and then the little tab that lines up those bolts had snapped allowing the cranks to move when I put some clearly massive watts through the pedals biggrin

Splines seem fine so will continue using and remember to check bolts regularly.

Still v pleased with overall bike though

Great bikepark day at Cardrona, 4128m of descent according to my ridelogs. Could have added another thousand if I'd ridden the 'Peak to Pub' descent from the park at the end, but someone had to drive down!

Not a massively exciting nor arty photo, more of a small achievement - first non-electric ride since August! Terrible, I know....

Anyway, a wee pootle round Beddington Park / Farmlands and the Wandle Trail, nothing too strenuous, hopefully I get motivate myself to do more and more this year...
