Last day in Chamonix. A mellow 33km (Etape Cymru on Sunday) to run an errand and deliver some hiking poles to the other end of the valley.

Mont-Blanc on the right (in the distance with the lenticular cloud over it) and the Aiguille du Midi on the left.

Far from painful, was up early so took the cross bike and headed for a quick detour before commuting into town. Was heading off road down toward Beaulieu estate at a fair lick along a narrow track that is known for being a bit soggy. It was mostly dry, but I managed to find a boggy bit and stopped dead, followed by a flop into a muddy puddle. Only damage was to my ribs from laughing so much smile

This is the section, as you can see it runs next to a stream http://www.strava.com/segments/4163946?filter=over...

Complete contrast to France where even the smallest back roads out in the sticks are in excellent condition, 300 miles in the last 10 days and have seen maybe 3 potholes.

Oh really ? it's quite an amazing location & must be worth absolute millions.

So tranquil amongst the hustle & bustle a few yards away.

biggrin Funny enough that is what the sign on the bottom left of the picture says!!

You can ride past the top of it though which is part of the 1948 Olympic road race circuit; http://www.strava.com/segments/1952373

If you know the area take a look at this video clip (from 1 minute in onwards) and see how much of the route you recognise!; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPkCQU8qKqo

Great moment at 2:25 where OKGO and Dizzee come together!!! smile

01"27' - the descent from the Guards Polo club? The commentator gave Blacknest Gate away, and odd bits of the rest of it looked vaguely familiar, but I've only ridden in the Great Park a couple of times, so I couldn't positively identify the locations. Then I had a look at the Strava segment and it would seem that I'm wrong about the hill at 1"27', because the segment shows that as a climb. Thanks for the link! I hadn't seen that footage before.
